My speedometer has just developed a 'funny' quirk - it only starts working once the engine has warmed up ie after about 5 miles. Anyone any ideas what would cause this?

Not entirely sure but may be the cable is sticking a little when cold but just warming enough after a few miles to free itself. A little oil may help or you could enjoy 5 free miles every journey

Cable? They are electronic speedos IIRC, try oil by all means but I don't think it'll do any good!

Have a look at the sender unit, its on the diff (nearside I think) look for the toothed wheel at the diff end of the driveshaft. There is a hall effect sender unit pointing at the teeth, the electrical contacts get dirty as it is fairly exposed, try giving them a clean.

Yes the transducer is at fault. This is located on the diff. About 1/4 the length of a cigar tube (as per previous post)

I have replaced two in three years on mine!

Isn't technology a great thing. Thanks for the clarification, I really must try to keep up.
