The first thing is to differentiate between the JTDm and the JTD. The m means swirl flaps and a different ecu. More to go wrong but lower emissions and tax. JTDm is roughly from 06 but not a reliable guide. After that front suspension will squeak and cambelts can snap, but both are relatively easy to avoid and fix. GTs are well built. Check everything works, look after it and be happy. My JTD has done 146k miles and goes really well. It is currently giving over 45mpg combined (admittedly with a lot of motorway).

The most common faults are..

Wishbones (squeaky suspension)
lower/top turbo hose no power/black smoke
creaking doors door straps
EGR valve, smoke and no power.
And clutches due to bad remaps

Bar that there pretty decently built, but get tarred with the usual alfa reliabilty brush, mostly from people who havent owned one.

Coincidently mine is up for sale at the moment, an earlier JTD.

If you want to know anything about the cars give me a shout.

Seized waterpumps at c60k are a worry. They lunch the engine so make sure the pump & all belts get done ASAP .

Sills are very prone to jacking damage so inspect carefully.

If you look at my garage profile for the GT, there's lots of links which will hopefully be useful and helpful.
