Posted this in general gassing but thought I'd duplicate it in the local forum... saw this released this morning and am VERY pi$$ed off...... I HATE Helen Clark, she's a TERRIBLE leader and her party's policies are gonna kill this country, I've already promised myself that if, after the next election, the political situation here remains as bad or worse (IMO) then I'm moving, I can't STAND another 4 years of being a$$raped by this sodding government who clearly hold themselves above the law!

Police have launched an inquiry into a speeding motorcade used to get Prime Minister Helen Clark to the Bledisloe Cup rugby test on Saturday night.
The three-vehicle convoy covered the 209 kilometres from Waimate to Christchurch in two hours on Saturday afternoon after a mechanical problem caused the cancellation of her flight from Timaru to Wellington.
Waimate Mayor David Owen reckons the trip normally takes 2½ hours, though he used to do it in two before traffic increased and speed cameras lurked over every hill.
He said Miss Clark's motorcade – two police vehicles and a ministerial limousine – would have travelled at speeds of up to 125km/h to get her to the airport to catch the 3.45pm flight to Wellington. Witnesses said the motorcade travelled even faster.
Raymond Mitchell, of Timaru, told the Holmes show last night it "flashed past" him in a 50km zone on the outskirts of Temuka at 140 to 150km/h.
"They were dangerous. I was bloody horrified," said his wife, Debbie.
Warwick Wright, of Christchurch, said he tried to lodge a complaint on the police hotline for mobile phone users when the motorcade "steamed" past him at Templeton but was told he could not because the car was the prime minister's.
"Quite frankly I was rather peeved when I watched the rugby that night and saw her there," he said.
The police investigation follows a complaint from a member of the public.
The Office of the Police Commissioner said it had been advised the motorcade was conducted at speeds "in excess of the posted speed limits". The commissioner's office said police escorting Miss Clark had been faced with a "difficult situation" when her Timaru flight was cancelled.
A spokesman for Miss Clark said she gave no instructions to her police escort and did not know how fast the motorcade had travelled.
"She didn't look at the speedo. She was working in the back seat."
Working in the backseat when exceeding 100km/h in a 50km/h zone? Yeah right.
I've been pinged for speeding several times over the years but never in a 50km/h zone and never in a situation anyone in their right mind would deem dangerous.
Are we to assume that the officers driving all three vehicles all made up their own minds to speed independently? Obviously that is nonsense - someone gave them the nod.
What if someone had been killed? For a

Totally hypocritical. Not only did she do it but she wont even talk about it. No Im sorry no nothing. Al shes said is it wasnt her decision and she didnt notice the speed.
I could never understand what anyone saw in her anti-economy policies and lets tax everything to death mentality.
Before the last election in three years they had introduced 17 new taxes in threee years, its probably lots higher now

I think you will find things a lot worse in all aspects over here in blighty......
Horses for courses and all that but unless you have "serious" money living in the UK, the quality of life in NZ will generally be higher...

PPS. Try sitting in a traffic jam on the M4 coming in to London as Tony Blair spanks it down the Bus lane at at least 80mph + past stationary traffic....now that pissed me off !!

i agree with what your saying, one rule for one another for eveyone else.I also have to say this sort of thing is far more common in the UK than anywhere else i've been....Tony Blair 
I do think though,there are far more,much bigger injustices than breaking the speed limit.....we all admit we do it,yet we complain when we get caught.It's a revenue generating exercise,but so is every other tax.If head girl wasn't steering the country whoever could be would be doing exactly the same!
On the whole Helen has not done NZ too bad.Now Tony Blair for the UK,thats a different story, or at least 85% of the population think so.

I don't think this thread was supposed to be an NZ vs UK debate. We all have our opinions and we mostly get to choose where we want to live. There's not a politician in the world who can claim to be 100% just and can please everyone all the time - by definition it's impossible.
Some leaders start off well and then outstay their welcome. Blair appears to be in that position and so does Mrs Clarke. History no doubt will be kind to both of them as it has been with the likes of Churchill, Kennedy and Mrs Thatcher (I hated her at the time, now I admire her resolve - weird isn't it?).
What this thread IS about is a politician, the leader of a country, who has based her whole political career on being an environmentally friendly, passive, nuclear-free, be-kind-to-children-and-small-animals goody-two-shoes, endangering people's lives for a game of rugby and then blatantly lying about it.
Over the years she has demonstrated a dreadful lack of listening to her fellow kiwis (and others who live in their country) and making terrible errors of judgement or worse, snap decisions. This is just another example and another nail in her political coffin.

Sure shes been good at apoligising to people and my father likes her as shes made his job at the IRD alot more secure but to anyone who takes the slightest bit of notice shes done her best at screwing up the country

A few people have been saying what is the big deal. What she did I dont think is that major but the fact that anyone else would be condemned for it and she acts as though its her god given right to do whatever she wants

sorry but i must be missing something,having looked at NZ's circumstances for the last 10,20,and 30 years it has never been so good as it is now.These are not my words, just everyday Kiwi's that we were out with recently.Maybe whoever was in power for the last 5 or so years would have had similar results.
I have no say in NZ politics as i live here on a UK passport with residency,i do feel though, with my limited knowledge of NZ politics that Labour come across a darn sight better than New Labour UK.

paws... yes, NZ has been good, but so has the rest of the world.... labour have been scamming the country and using the money they get from it to buy the lower socio-economic vote.... we pay more taxes than ever, have higher crime than ever, and have a traffic enforcement policy that labels you as a nurderer if you speed...... unless you're the PM

Once again I agree.
Just like the US has been doing pretty well the last couple of years, that dont mean George Bush had anything to do with it.
Labour has tried their best to ruin the economy, its only cause the world economy has been so strong they havnt completley succeeded
