This weekend I will be taking the engine out of my transit and exchanging it for cash with some stranger from the internet. I took the van off the road in the summer because tin worm was setting in. I was going to weld it, but it hasn't been needed since. Couldn't sell it as it was but "testing the water" turned into a good offer.

Anyway, the engine will be sold and the shell weighed in and I feel really sad that this is how my relationship with my lovely van, the best vehicle I've ever owned, will end.

Please tell me I'm not the only one to feel this way for an old vehicle.

No I'm the same!
Got my skoda pickup laying in my garden nearly 2 years.
It needs some welding and a few bits, I should have scrapped it but its been a reliable faithful little soldier over the 6 years I've had it.
I haven't got the heart to scrap it so I'll put it up for sale for spares or repair, hopefully someone will use the parts or fix it up.

Felt sad to see my Ford Focus go, it pissed oil, the wheel shook at high speed and it had Wan Li tyres but I loved it. Looked great and rode really well and was my first half decent car, felt really sad pulling out of the dealership.

I was a little sad when my e28 528i found a new owner. I had it 11 years and had some good family holidays with it. The car had character.

I'm with you, i was sad when i sold my old S13, & bloody nearly chased the guy who bought my R32 Skyline down the road to tell him I changed my mind!
I think its natural, we all love cars, thats why we're on here! Of course many of us develop a bit of a personal attachment to them...

Got sad many years ago when i sold my Triumph TR6 to pay for my wedding - not sure selling the car was a good idea as i always slightly resented my now ex-wife for making me sell the TR6.

Also sold a Capri 3.0S for no good reason that i can re-call.

Always sorry to see vehicles passed on, I couldn't part with my Landy for love nor money even if it is broken 70% of the time. All part of the 'character' :P

I was sad when I sold my old Golf Mk3, and my old BMW E30. They were both quite bangerish in the eyes of others, but for me those 2 cars are the ones I got the most attached to, and have fond memories of them both. I was even sadder when I found out they have both been scrapped frown

I've bought and sold many cars but only once I cried as I sold my '85 Jag V12 sov.
It raped my wallet but was an utter joy to waft around in, I blubbed like a girl as it wafted away for the last time.
I found something even less practical but faster and more economical, so it had to go.

10 years on and my Jag itch has returned, it did affect me, I'll have another (not a V12 tho)

my e36 325 overheated on the way home the other day, probably an easy fix, but with the mot looming, i abandoned it on the side of the road (50 miles from home) called for a lift, the next day i posted the keys to the nearest scrap yard and they collected it, i never saw it again. Made me feel really very sad!

I was sad when my first car was sold after being in the family for over 7 years!
The strange thing was, I'd given it back to my mum 2 years earlier and hadn't seen it for over a year when it was traded in hehe

Even then, I was sure they were going to find a clause to sting me when I turned up with half of the front bumper missing, no brake fluid, and one of the front wheels pushed a couple of inches back in the arch. That was an excellent rental. biggrin

I felt sad leaving my Fiesta in the breakers after it was written off especially as it was my first car. Fairly sad when I traded in my 206 for the Civic, really sad when I left the Civic behind picking up the VXR, had so much fun in that car and I still miss it now. frown

The VXR didn't bother me, that car was dead to me after it was stolen. I know whenever it goes I'll miss the Integra. It may be the only car I'll have that I'll buy another one of because I miss it.

Only if the replacement isn't at least as good/fast/nice.

Always a little bit of sentiment if its a car that has been with you a while but I wouldn't say it is so much sadness.

Genuine sadness when i've sold :

My first car ( Knackered Mk1 Golf )
Both Capri's
All the BMW's that have passed through my hands.

The rest have generally been consumable items - used and then sold on when I got bored/when they looked like getting a significant repair bill.

I jumped for joy when I managed to get rid of my Mk2 Golf GTi - hateful stbox that it waslaugh
