Should i give it up?
Discussion
Speeding that is?
Ive done almost every speed on the dammed speedo at one time or another and in all sorts of places thatd most likely be frowned upon, but ive been out tonight and to be frank, its just not ringin my bell anymore.
"Sacrilege" some will shout. Cant help it tho.
Have to admit its almost like im growing out of it....how nutty is that?
Maybe i need a new type of "fix", like strapping an SRB to my ass and having a blast down the quarter mile or sommat...
Been feeling this creeping up on me for months now, and each time i go out, i get less and less of a "payoff".
So while ill never give up exceeding the limits on the signs,(thats on principle) i just wont be doing it by such a large margin, and not for "fun". Also is the fact that sooner or later Mr Talivan is going to catch me out(maybe) and the other obvious one is a mistake is likely to occur somewhere down the line, resulting in a big problem for me or someone else, not desirable at all.
I think it may be time to take it to the track and see how it goes from there, at least for the higher speed stuff anyway......

I never took you for someone that drove fast except for the enjoyment. I don't see any shame in going slower if that's what you feel more comfortable doing...
...unless you turn into a 40mph in NSL numpty, in which case I'll curse to eternity as I blat past (in a carefully considered and safe manner of course).

Mate, sad to hear you've matured to such a level. You've gotta try riding a bike next. It's a lot more fun getting a road bike sideways than it is getting a car sideways and the acceleration is pretty serious too.
e.g. New GSXR1000 does 50-130 in just over 5 seconds.
Incidentally, how old is your Delta F? I followed an E-plate, white Delta from Winchester to Alton on Sunday night and he drove in an excellent manner. Thought it might've been you (pretty random I know, but it made me think).

Get a Caterham 7, add a new dimension to your driving -get out on track days and sprints/hillclimbs - and meet a nice new community in the process.
Faster and safer than bikes on the bendy bits where you can really begin to feel the lateral G's, and they have superb braking that push you against the full harness belts.
etc etc

It's not the speed that kills it's the inappropriate speed, so driving round certain blind bends at the speed limit in the rain will have you in a ditch and driving on the straight approaching it at twice the speed limit may be relatively safe.
I find at work that Motivation is based on Measures of Performance.
So try a new measure of performance for a month.
See if you can get a rediculous MPG out of your car.
(My mate got 75 mpg out of an old astra mk3 diesel, and plotted the savings for 6 months, before using the money saved to buy an astra GTE 16V - Previous to that he's only achieve about 50 mpg)

I always find myself driving much better (and slower - the two aren't the same) after a trackday than before.
Alternatively get the biggest ugliest 4X4 you can get (Chevy Suburban?) with loads of bull bars. The thing will be so tall and roll so much it will be frightening to drive and you will be terrified of hitting anybody as it would almost certainly kill them. (Unless your under the speed limit).

Gotta agree with the above sentiments, trackdays are the way to go! Driving on UK roads, unless they're local I know them well enough not to have a talivan on, have lost their appeal for me. I need my licence to get to work and just can't risk more points as insurance is expensive enough as it is. Driving on a track means you can give it full beans and not have that worry
