Competition pack is the one to get if you want better laptimes and less wheel-spin out of the corners. It also adds new traction control modes for track driving.

It really makes a difference:

This what I would choose if I was buying one.

Less wheel spin out of corners wtf? Comp pack cars have upgraded mdynamic mode, sit 10mm lower and have different slightly heavier wheels!

Mid 2008 cars got a better upgraded idrive system.
Mid 2010 onwards cars got facelift including led rear lights.

Monte Carlo cars will have a decent spec although they won't have the latest led lights etc as they are all 09/10 cars

Yes those upgrades improve grip and make it easier to put power down hence the better lap times.

I have to correct myself about that lap time. It is fake!(I asked Matt) CP is faster but I do not know by how much. Just read reviews from the sites to decide if this is something you need.

That site has some suspect info, Comp pack gets an extra 6 hp? lol

For the vast majority Comp pack is more desirable from an aesthetics perspective given it comes with the Y-spoke design rims (359Ms) and sits 10mm lower (this in itself is not something you would notice, its not like 4wd vs slammed height). Other than that most won't exploit the car to its potential to notice the 'tweaked' EDC/DSC modes.

This is spot on.

You have to check the build date to be sure, mines an Aug 2008 build, registered dec 08 on an 09 plate but still the older idrive where as I've seen an earlier saloon with the later idrive.

I looked at the Monte Carlo and wasn't willing to pay the premium dealers seem to be asking for a so called ltd edition car when you can start picking up CP (later) cars for a bit less.

Most people will tell you EDC is essential for resale value (which Monte Carlo will have). DCT is pretty popular.

Plenty of choice around and some good deals to be had. You could look at a new m3 for about £650pcm I think.

With respect, can you qualify this statement.

Gaz needs to confirm for himself but at a guess I suspect he was trying to say is that the main advantages of the Competition Pack are only evident on a track and therefore for road use it's a waste of money? The CP does give you EDC but you can add that as an extra for a lot less than the cost of the CP; the other plus with the CP is the much nicer CSL-style 19" wheels so perhaps it comes down to what value you put on those?

But can't you get the CP as a free upgrade at the moment anyway? I do like the CSL wheels and had them on my E46 CS but every E46 and E92 you see seems to have them (or reps) now so the original wheels are probably a bit rarer!

Did the CP cars get a slight power upgrade? The 2007 M3 is listed as 414bhp where as the 2010 is 420bhp, I've seen this a few times and assumed it was a mix up between BHP and PS but I have seen it from a number of sources.

BMW were offering the CP as a complimentary upgrade until recently but I think the only way you can get it for "free" at the moment is by ordering the Frozen Silver limited edition (which comes with things you potentially don't want, not least the paint finish!). Personally I do prefer the CSL-style wheels but I'm not sure I'd pay a couple of grand for them (especially when the car probably drives better on the standard 18" wheels!).

I'm not aware that cars with the CP have a power upgrade over the standard car but to be honest who's going to notice a 6 bhp increase on 414 bhp? I suspect normal production tolerances could easily account for that sort of difference!

Yes, they've just finished that upgrade ( basically £5000 worth of complimentary stuff ) and now are championing the special editions.

There is definitely no power increase on the comp pack.
