OK so two weeks into ownership and I've got my first gremlin. Went to start it and bling up popped a warning on the HUD and DIS showing SOS call failure. Now the Assist has long been disconnected and from searching on various BMW forums it seems that it could be a Bluetooth problem or a CCC (Entertainment Computer) problem which is not covered under warranty!!!!! About 800 notes to replace.

Anyone had this problem?

Thanks

Phil

New one on me.

Id look at having the software rebooted at a dealer. Idrive and associated gremlins are often software issues solved by a full refresh download. Make sure they do all the entertainment modules, comfort computer and ECU as well as the gearbox comp.

A quick bit of research revealed this possible fix:

"So, for the record, if you get such a message (SOS Call System Failure!) and it additionally messes up your iDrive, action the following steps:

1. Depress the CD eject, DVD eject and CD volume knob simultaneously until the iDrive screen blanks out.
2. After iDrive reinitialisation, remove your bluetooth mobile from the iDrive menu
3. Switch off, not sure it's necessary but that's what I did.
3. Switch back on and re-config your mobile back into the iDrive."

Try it, might help.

Thanks Eddie

Free of charge or one hours labour?

I believe that you can reset the CCC by holding certain buttons on DVD and CD etc... so might try this one first before driving 20 miles to my nearest dealer.

A reboot takes about 8 hours if done properly but my dealer only charges an hour as they leave it plugged in over night rather than wasting time and money during the day.

I have just had done for free as they were fitting a new thermostat and said this wouldn't work if the car wasn't reprogrammed.

Only difference I have noticed is some different menus in the USB stick - so I can now sort by artist, album, song etc.

Could be battery.

Mine did the same when battery was low. Disables mobile unit which switches off the SOS feature, hence warning

I took the car in for Xenon yesterday and he reset the computer (15 minutes not 8 hours) and it has removed the SOS call failure from the DIS and HUD. Now he showed me the fault list and they were related to SIM card not detected on the TCU.
