Cheers guys !
To be honest I have always had manuals previously apart from a 5 series BMW in 2006, so can't really compare it to a 'gearlever' on previous models.
I was a little worried that reading previous posts, it may become a bit tiresome waiting for it to rise
, but I haven't found that. It's ready almost as soon as the engine starts and engaging reverse or drive is almost instantaneous.
What I have found though, and it is annoying is the wait for drive to be taken up when applying throttle, especially if after you've been coasting .......nothing....nothing, then an almighty shove in the back and tries to drop a gear!
In some cases I can see how it could become dangerous in certain circumstances !
I have been reliably informed however that it gets better with more miles !

I spent all of my morning today driving exactly the same vehicle around the land rover experience centre. It's simply epic off road in terms of capability.
Better than my 90 in so many ways. Perhaps a little too easy on occasion. The auto diff locks and traction control are so very impressive! Gratuitous pics to follow.

I think they only have one diflock as standard Better than my 90 in so many ways. Perhaps a little too easy on occasion. The auto diff locks and traction control are so very impressive! Gratuitous pics to follow.
I think LR may over a rear diflock as an option in the disco though. I dont think they could go the same places a 90 could go. However they are still incredibly capable. There are some great videos on YouTube of the S3 Disco off road.
I am doing a Land Rover experience day in a few weeks for a mates stag. I'm really lookinmg forward to it

I will bow down to superior knowledge, my D4 knowledge was non existent until the weekend. I think what fooled me is the screen for the command centre show two definite red 'blobbs' with padlock symbols that opened to green or closed to red in different circumstances. One in the centre of the rear diff and one in the traditional transfer box location as in my 90.

Thanks !
The LRE Discos have the option of 'Active rear locking diff'. That is the only difference, they are even shod with standard wheels and tyres. I was told on several occasions that unless I'm doing serious off road work, the active diff is a waste of money for me, so didn't tick it !
I did the LRE day several weeks ago, and was amazed where the Disco could go in supreme comfort with all the bells and whistles of a limousine !
Just took mine for it's first venture off road .......... it was a little different not having the instructor beside you telling what to do and when to select it, even the trick of going down a steep slope, engaging hill decent, and then flicking it into neutral just to test it out !!
It coped just as expected, faultlessly !
