MOT Fail! Emissions!
Discussion
Failed MOT on the Emissions.
The tester had clocked off when I collected the car so didnt get to have them explained etc.
What are your thoughts on the following readings:
Fast Idle: Fail
CO: 1.355 Fail
HC: 87 Pass
Lambda: 0.964 Pass
Second Fast Idle test: Fail
CO: 1.431 Fail
HC: 45 Pass
Lambda 0.960 Pass
Natural Idle Test:
CO 2.951 Fail
The CO values are way out. and the HC seem very low?
will my ignition timing (only set roughly be me!) have an effect on the above? I did ask it to be check / set before the test, but I'm not convinced they did.

Bud mine failed its mot on the emissions this year big time
.cost a packet to sort out had to put in new plugs,2 new lamba sensors, and 2 cats.the only good news is the car is running really good now,and she did pass the mot......just.our local tvr garage has shut down recently so i was stuffed, also had my outriggers done and this took an age so garage sorted mot while it was in.your figures are way better than mine was, hope the got the car really hot when they did the check

As spongy said make sure that the engine is warm hot when they do the test, I always sit and wait with the engine running till they are ready for me, plus the drive to the mot station is usually how shall we say brisk....
I also have had a lot of success with fuel system conditioners,
The one I use is this

A few years ago a friend brought round a mini 2 for me to look at, it had a long list of fault codes all to do with the emission, a can of DAE in the tank and in less than a week all the fault codes had gone, had the same success with other cars. a big but is it will not fix electric or mechanical faults, if the car is running ok it will help, for £10 I look on it as a cheap add on to the service on my cars.
