Why not to lend the Cerbera out.....
Discussion
Being the good neighbour I am... I lent the Cerb to my neighbour for his wedding yesterday...
Unfortunately thats where things started to go wrong... First i got a phone call saying it wouldn't start, was just clicking... I had this a couple of times before but it always went in the end... The starter has recently had the rebuild kit fitted and seems to be sticking maybe? I have bypassed the immobiliser to rule that out but has made no difference.. Any ideas?
Second phone call... He made it to his destination but whilst crusing on the A1 he completely lost 5th gear.. No noise, just no gear, like being in neutral... 1-4 are fine... I don't believe he was thrashing it, he's not like that and would have had his best man and young boy in the car... Any ideas/knowledge on this? Selector or 5th gear buggered? :-(
Just awaiting it to be delivered back to me to assess the damage!!!
Thanks Rich...

If its a T5 box (chimaera owner here) then 5th gear can slide off the shaft from what I understand. Happened to me just lost fifth wasnt giving it the beans either.
Took it to CTS where they rebuilt the box and machined a groove on the shaft for a c clip to stop it happening again.
This was years ago but pretty sure thats what happened.
I had this when I first got my car. Apparently, there's a circlip on the 5th gear shaft that comes off and the gear runs off down the shaft. The 'box feels like it's selecting 5th but when releasing the clutch, it's as if it's in neutral.
Apparently, you should get it fixed sooner rather than later as the gear can come off the end (I haven't worked that one out) causing damage.
I had a re-con box fitted as I wanted the reassurance of some warranty with the box as the real cost is in the labour.
It's a few years ago now mind.
I don't know if the driver could cause this, so go easy on him until someone who knows better comes along!!
Cheers

I had the same in my chim shortly after I got it while cruising on the motorway.. It's the hear working its way off the shaft so can get jammed in the gears if you're unlucky.. Sounds like its ok but it will need a rebuild - box out job. Give dom at TVR power a ring and he can explain/quote it for you.

te ,always when you do a favour something happens like this.If there is no horrible noises from the gearbox it must be a selector....could be wrong.
Hope it goes better than your's. But as said it is SODS law that it would happen at the worst time.
