Scooters on the A59

Saw hundreds (and I mean "hundreds") of scooters on the A59 heading west towards York at about 13:00 today.

Anyone have any idea what the event is?

It really was quite a spectacle.

The warm up to the annual Easter weekend Scarborough run I think. I was there in '84 and '85. Back then it was the Yorkshire Road Runners S.C. who organised the run. Good days!

There were a couple of dozen in and around Skipton on the A59 earlier too. Some looked like they could barely move under the weight of all the chromes lights and mirrors

Ha! I remember the 1st year, someone had the bright idea of going the Sutton Bank route. Now that WAS a laugh. 250 scooters with 15-20 bhp each! We stuck to the A64 every year after that

There was the Yorkshire Scooter Alliance run out Knaresborough/York yesterday......

If only my wife wasn't such a selfish person I'd get myself a scooter. I've had a few since being a young lad. Had a Vespa 50 special to sit on in the garage at 13 then a 125e before getting converted to Lambretta. If only camera phones were about then. I had an orange GP150 and rebuilt a wreck of a TV175 - it's the only one I've got a photo of!!

But... But... It's not a scooter Tonto.
I was invited up to Scotland with the Rotherham scooter lads last year.
While we discussed the trip it was decided he I went they'd set off on the Friday and I'd set off on Saturday on my bandit just to give them a head start.
