"Standard" Mods & Costs

Hi, does anyone have a list of "necessary" M12 mods with a rough idea of total cost to complete each?
I'm not talking performance, track day or cosmetic, just the essential / reliability stuff which often gets talked about on this forum. Probably already exists somewhere but my searches failed..

Essential stuff only then, could anyone estimate a cost against these (with labour, I'm a total spanner with a spanner, sadly)

1) Fuel pump wiring
2) Tunnel cooling
3) Pro Alloy Oil breather
4) Upgrade ARV
5) Replace silicon pipes

I would allow about 5k, without exhaust, about 2k. All this depends where you take it ofcourse.

Headlights seem OK as they are, exhaust is going to need changing at some point but not critical.
Will get some quotes for the rest.

Oil breather and ARV you really can do yourself - both very easy to access, no requirement to break in to any pressurised or liquid filled systems, no electrics. If you're absolutely set on getting someone else to do it I would only expect 90 minutes labour for those. Tunnel cooling is quite involved and so you are paying for labour rather than any particular skill or experience. You can get a ready-made wiring loom for the fuel pump, but an auto electrician should be able to sort in an hour or so.

My M400 is pretty well sorted with respect to this list, but have a couple of questions.

What's the exhaust manifold issue? Pretty sure the headers in my M400 are stainless (nonmagnetic). I've taken them off for close inspection. Saw a few minor internal hairline cracks a few cm downwind from the exhaust port flange (probably from tracking) but nothing serious and no external cracks. Did my best to TIG the cracks.

I'm blanking on "ARV" and Google was no help? My favorites were: Armed Recovery Vehicle , Alien Reproduction Vehicle , Anti Rabies Vaccination. Noble owners do seem to be a pretty rabid bunch no vaccin is going to help us.

P.S. I would add headlight vents to the "necessary" list to avoid cracked lenses and fogging that several owners have reported. See http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Bill,

ARV is the anti rollover valve that links to the fuel tank breather pipe, in the Uk they used a really cheap one from a fiesta which stick and cause a vacuum in the tank.
I had an issue with fuel starvation and the problem was found to be the ARV, it turned out that many other people had the same problem and is one reason why the 044 pumps get noisy..

Not sure what car you have... if its a 3r or M400 I say ONLY the fuel pump wire upgrade (around 100 fitted) is a must have rest are nice to haves or maintenance IMHO... if you have an older GT03 or GTO then get an LSD (over 1k fitted) or track day sump fitted (if they are not already).

To add to what Andy said, late production M400s came with the fuel pump wiring mod. Not sure when it became standard issue, though. HiTech assembled mine in ~May 2007 and it has the mod.

Thanks for that bob! will i need to order the 6mm or 8mm? as don't want to change the pipes just want to do a straight swap.
Any other fittings i will need to get also so i can do a quick fix over weeekend.

Simon, i just want to clarify what i said..the ARV is one of the restrictins that can make the 044 more noisy than normal, replacing the ARV will not make it go quiet again as i have found when they get noisy it is irreversible,they are generally a buzzing pump anyway, this i can live with, but they can get really noisy when strained and old. the filter can be another small restriction..they can get clogged plus the unions are restrictive...also if you get a bubbling noise from the pump this can be either cavitation or a faulty non return valve, i also just had this problem lol.
