How do you select models?
Discussion
I like it i buy it, mostly group b rally although I do collect other rally cars. Road cars not really into super cars just everyday cars. Some exceptions to the rule though: http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y79/GroupB/Model%...
In the past, I just collected anything that caught my eye in the shop (diecast), or while browsing retailer's stock lists (resin kits). I ended up with a very mixed collection:
Bburago 1/18th
LeMans winners in 1/43 resin
Rally cars in 1/43 resin
Solido classics
EFE buses and trucks
These days I concentrate on anything F40.

Just wondering how people decide what models they're going to buy.
I can imagine some of the reasons being; collect-ability, particular brands (fanboyism? :P), cars owned by yourself etc...
Many Thanks.
For me it's almost entirely Lamborghinis but I would also buy old cars I've owned if I could find them. I think I've got about 110 so far with more coming. My best one is this limited edition and is very rare.I can imagine some of the reasons being; collect-ability, particular brands (fanboyism? :P), cars owned by yourself etc...

I buy anything that takes my fancy - i think that I have got somewhere in the region of 2000 models at the moment.
Not buying much at the moment although I have got the complete set of the James Bond cars - 116 of these so far - & I am also buying the rally car collection that can only be bought from WH Smiths.
They are 1/43 scale models & they are of quite good quality for £6.00 each.
My collection consists of race cars, road cars, rally cars, F1 etc. If I like the model I buy it. If I don't like it I leave it on the shelf.

Well, Out the box if it takes my fancy. So far I have a grand total of 1.
DIY, again, what takes my fancy. Just starting again on this front. So far spur of the moment though I do have my eye on a few of the more difficult ones but need to get a bit better. So far one tank completed and three or four planes or the go and one nasty little bi plane is going to be used for a crash scene. When I was younger it was anything that was airfix for some reason, now I appreciate there is far more out there.

Always kits for me, I make models for the making rather than the result. I tend to lean towards JDM cars, but I am open to others - it's just the kits tend to be more expensive.
As for choice - anything I like the look of which is cheap. I've only paid new price for one or two kits, because they were limited run models with Itasha decal sets. My current list (in the order I've built them, and thus also in quality) is:
AE86 Trueno

Modified FD3S RX-7

Ferrari F430 (Just realised I need to do a photo shoot for this)

Evo X Nanoha Itasha

Currently working on an R34 Skyline, and I'm using the decal set from another Itasha on it.
My stash is small:
an MR2 kit to make into a replica of my own
S30Z
Another Evo X (bought for the decals)
A Micra which I was a bit ambitious with, so is on hold for now

This is me too, I enjoy building rather than buying, the plastic kits are usually more accurate models as well.
I've just ordered my first 1:12 scale kit, it's a Mini but I'm going to build one of these Bad boys I've got the engine sourced, I just need to sort the front subframe out, lower the car and add a roll cage to it.

Panda Trueno, nice.
A yellow FD too - clearly a fan of Initial D but surely the 86 needs a Fujiwara Tofu decal
It does need it - I looked briefly when I built it, but didn't have much luck finding one. I intend to build another though (without the lights so I can focus on build and paint quality rather than them), so I'll probably work something out then.A yellow FD too - clearly a fan of Initial D but surely the 86 needs a Fujiwara Tofu decal

When I was younger I would buy anything and everything! In my early 20's I had aquired 1000's of models. I even found a model collectible shop that was closing down and bought almost all their stock of diecast. I kind of went a little crazy you could say!I can imagine some of the reasons being; collect-ability, particular brands (fanboyism? :P), cars owned by yourself etc...
Many Thanks.
The problem came when I got married and started moving house. Putting away 1000's of models in all their respective boxes and then getting them all out again started to become a real pain and I also found that the space I had for displaying got less and less as children came along and I ended up finding that less than 10% of my collection was actually on display, the rest were boxed up and hidden in the garage

After a couple more house moves I had realised that shifting all these boxes and never having them on display was a complete pain in the ~@$% so I decided enough was enough.
I narrowed by collection down to 4 main themes and now I stick to that and will not be adding any more 'themes' especially as the cost of diecast has gone through the roof in recent years...
So I collect the following:
Eddie Stobart
Ayrton Senna
Lamborghini
Royal Mail.
4 very different themes but I still only have about a third of the models on display. Having recently moved again to a bigger house I will get around to having them all on display, each in their own themes display cabinets - just need to find some nice cabinets

As for the rest, I sold the majority on eBay over a period of 2-3 years, still have some that I simply can't give away!! Never really made much, but it did give me some extra cash to secure some really nice items of eBay, all under RRP of course ;P
One of these days I will get around to photographing them all both for my personal records and also to post on here.
