First House mix!

A 1hr mix of various House/Electro tunes...
Ok so technically not my 'first' mix, but it's the first I've subjected to the judgement of the public, and more importantly fellow PHers!
Bit of background info-
I started DJing about 8 years ago, learning to beatchmatch etc on a pair of second-hand Synergy CDJ2000 (ironic model name!) cd players- I couldn't even find any info about these on google! These were pretty basic even then- a play/pause button, track/frame search, and a pitch slider. No jogwheel, bmp counters, advanced cueing etc, and the cd actually just spins on the top of the unit... Along with a second-hand 4 channel Phonic mixer with line EQs, and a single Gemini SA600mk2 DD turntable this is pretty much how my setup stayed.
It was a steep learning curve but well worth it. Anyways, after several house moves and no space I ended up spending 6 or so years raving it up on the other side of the turntables, but a few months ago I picked up a Behringer BCD3000 controller for our pre-going out saturday evenings and started getting back into it. Going digital actually felt like starting all over again, but it was cheap and it's serving it's purpose. However it just doesn't feel quite the same so now I have the space again I've decided to bite the bullet and buy some new CDJs & a new 4 channel mixer next month.
I'll be putting more mixes up as I go along so hopefully you'll see some progress! Although this is mostly house stuff, I've got a fair bit of minimal house/techno, hardhouse/hard trance, and a rather large collection of happy hardcore that I'll hopefully get around to putting into some mixes.
All comments/constructive criticism welcome!

Just listening to this now. While I am into quite a lot of electronic/Dance music I am far from an expert - it always amazes me where people find random songs and remixes to put in their sets.
Anyway, enjoying it so far. It's not exactly my style (a bit too chilled/laidback) but I've not heard much that I'd class wrong with it. Possibly the 'mixing' is a bit done a bit too quick, as in for me personally the next song is in playing 100% with no remnants of the previous song a too soon. For me mixing that quickly is fine with lots of songs in a setlist but not when the song is going to be played for most of its length. That's maybe not criticism, more my opinion. It might be just because I am not paying 100% attention. I've never mixed, so you're doing better than me atleast!
I'd be interested in hearing more.

Yeah it's an interesting one regarding the mix length, in this one I was trying to include a wide selection of styles that don't often lend themselves to longer mixes- in fact for a couple I had to get a bit creative using a looped section of the incoming track to extend it out a bit! I find this type of music a bit more suited to the more 'creative' mixing style, i.e teasing bits of the incoming track, going back and forth etc, unfortunatley I'm not yet familiar enough with the midi controller to do attempt more than basic 4bar loops (did someone mention bad workmen & tools?)
Going back to a CDJ & mixer setup shortly so I'm not too fussed at taking the midi side too much further.I listen to a lot of hard trance/hardhouse/techno etc and I think thats where the longer blends really work better, I will be attempting to get some of these mixes up too in the coming weeks!

I would be interested in those mixes too, possibly a bit more my style. The teasing thing is kind of what I was alluding to as that's what I enjoy, it's always good to hear a brief sample/loop and try to guess what's coming next.I listen to a lot of hard trance/hardhouse/techno etc and I think thats where the longer blends really work better, I will be attempting to get some of these mixes up too in the coming weeks!

Just listening to one of my mates mixes at the moment. He's basically just starting to break through and already has one release on Perfect Driver Records (CTC "call the cops" - Aaron Snapes). His release isn't my cuppa really, bit slow, bit abstract. But its been well received and I tend to like his mixes better. He has a free mix out on thehawtmovement.podomatic.com. Its not bad, will be interesting to compare the two because his mix is over an hour long and only 15 tracks.
I dunno what's classed as normal amount of tracks to play but I tend to like faster, more freestyle DJ'ing..... Best mix I ever ever heard was Carl Cox on BBC R1. It was at the end of Seb Fontaines show, the guest mix portion at the end. I think he played 20-odd tracks in 30 minutes. It was off the chizang.

Yep I know what you mean, mixes like that are insane. Carl Cox is fantastic, and Laid Back Luke is another one. His mix for Pioneer DJ Sounds truly is mental- playing off 4 CDJs and looping/scratching the whole time. Hurts my eyes trying to follow it Just listening to one of my mates mixes at the moment. Sadly, I'm still on some fairly basic mixing- used a use a bit of looping in mine but I'm not really getting on with this midi controller lark, I also probably play a bit too much of the tracks in this one for your liking!

I'll see what I can do, I've had it on in my car and I've noticed towards the end of the mix the recording input levels have run a bit high so it's distorting a bit on a proper system, I should've kept a better eye on it but we live and learn!
