Has anyone put a cat back system on one ? I want to put a cat back system on, I would prefer not to remap if possible, I would like to keep the standard look, really I just want to get a bit more noise, that Subaru rumble without being too loud, any idea ? And who supplies online ?

You'll be alright with a catback.

Won't make much difference to the car, so you shouldn't need a remap.

Hayward and scott system sounds nice.

I health checked one on 98ron and it was detting with catback on.

So would personnally recommend getting it check and mapped if required once exhaust fitted. You will see benefits other than just the extra power.

Hatch WRX or STi already det their fair share without a catback. Fitting a catback is neither causing nor making little difference to det.

One particular car.

Checked it for the owner on 97ron totally standard car and it was fine.

He then fitted a cat back and I checked it again and it was detting.

He then came back with 97ron and octane boost and check it again and no det and fuelling safe.

Since mapped it on straight 97ron as thats best fuel available in his location.

Seen plenty of others but thats the only one I recall seeing and checking at every stage.

I just think its worth getting it checked for piece of mind.

I have a Cobra cat back with 3" bore.
I looked at and listened to a number of other options before choosing the cobra unit but found it the best balance of good sound at a sensible volume!

This car has the same set up:

To be fair I'd agree with Simon,

1) The orininal map on the 08 STi was not great, hence they a few problem, the latest maps are much better, IMHO.

2) I know of four or five instances of garages selling "Super UL" and ignition has been cut back 8*+ and low power or light up Knock-link up like a chrismas tree. The next tank of Fuel from elswhere and all back to normal. So we reckon it's not "Super" just 95ron in a "Super"tank. 20,000 ltrs unleaded @ £1.35 and sell it as £1.50 he will make £3,000 more by an accidental "Error"

OK most Standard cars wouldn't even notice difference or cause any Harm, but enough to @@@@ some mildly modded Scoobs or ones with a map thats not quite right wink.
"If" your map is "Borderline", fitting an exhaust or poor Fuel or combination of both, could spell disaster IMHO

Back to the oringnal OP post, and making a short reply VERY long, if this was my Car

01-05 STi 2.0ltr I'd just fit a Cat back
06-07 STi 2.5ltr I'd just fit a Cat back and monitor advance and Knock
08-10 STi 2.5ltr I'd just fit a Cat back re-mapped, happy days
11-12 STi 2.5ltr I'd just fit a Cat back and monitor advance and Knock

So £400-600 for remap or £3,500 for rebuild "You pays your money......"

IMHO IIRC
