When reading an old sprint there was an article about someones chim that cut out every now and again but if he turned it off it start up again and run okay. He spoke to a garage about the fault who told him to swap two relays that are the same in foot well, has anyone heard of this before and does any body know what the relays are for?

The two relays are for the ignition and fuel pump, I think the thought behind changing them over is that it will clean up the contacts that might be corroded.
I think the The bosch part number is 0332014112 if you want to replace them.

The two relays in the spaghetti in the footwell iirc are for the ignition circuit and fuel pump and swapping the two over can sometimes solve any issues by either cleaning the contacts or losening a 'sticky' relay

My car has this problem too. Doesn't happen very often though. I replaced the two relays a couple of weeks ago and it hasn't happened since, but I have only driven the car a few times.

They are about £9 each so it seemed a sensible precaution. I'll report back if it isn't a 'fix' in the longer term.

As they are only £10 each you may as well replace them if suspect. My fuel relay went and it is downright dangerous loosing all power (including PS) whilst joining the M6 at night doing an unmentionable speed! Plus once they start to fail they seriously overheat and I dread to think what might happen to any wires in contact with them.
