In the unlikely event that anybody on here isn't familiar with the different types of scams then there's a nice concise explanation here

Look how much they cost, yet certain persons love them and are forcing us to pay for more of them. Makes me wonder if said persons are on the take big time.

Nice and concise, but would have been even better with photos!

So all a motorbike rider needs to do to defeat Truvelo is to pull a wheelie over the loops. The system is then left thinking "blimey, this is a long vehicle".

I think they should also have reminded people of the good old fashioned Vascar as well. ie hardly visible police vehicles can be just as "deadly".

I thought we had managed to conclude that Gatso do not take front facing pictures?

But not because they can't!

In Essex, there are now some forward facing Gatsos on trial, they work in pairs, one from behind as normal, one in front to help ID the driver

Madness! The original Gatsos took pics from in front and IIRC were changed to rear-facing due to privacy implications that fell foul of the law. I can only assume that the law has been suitably amended to allow for Truvelos, Specs and this experiment, so why not just turn the existing units to point the other way and re-paint the lines?

That's not my understanding. When recording an offence on a receding car, the Gatso takes two shots which allows two forms of speed measurement - the radar and comparing the two photos and working out speed = distance / time.
However, for approaching vehicles the Gatso system only takes one shot, so you are reliant on only the radar which, as I understand it, is insufficient.

It is nothing to do with privacy.

You're probably right, but from a technical point of view I can't see any reason why they couldn't take 2 shots from in front also. Surely just a matter of getting the lines painted in the right place?

Looking at the costs of all those cameras. If they had spent the same amount of money on improving the roads, ie better lighting, surfaces, mirrors on blind corners or trim the hedges/tress so you can see round corners, wider/dual lanes for safer overtaking, etc etc, I'm sure we'll safe more lives. Oh I forgot, saving lives is not what they're tryng to do....

Plus Gatsometer implemnting the required changes to the camera's firmware, testing it extensively and then recalling every control unit of every camera to have the firmware updated with the new version.
