Hi. Been lurking for a while and now looking for some advice.

Currently got my ZX7R SORNed, un-insured and with no MOT. Can someone explain to me the order I need to get everything to get back on the road legally without falling foul of the law?

Thanks

As above but go to your local DVLA office to get the tax sorted out there and then.

I know you're allowed to ride to an MOT centre (with pre-booked appointment) without an MOT, but what about the tax situation?

It doesn't need to be taxed to go to and from an MOT but it must be insured.

This.

Although be aware - the only auspices under which the insurance will count is on a run to a pre-booked MOT.

Waste of time and effort.

Post office will do it as normal, or do it on line.

I went in to the garage with a shiny new tax disc for my ZX7R on Friday.

Three days later and it still won't start. It is road legal now though, which doesn't make up for whatever bding electrical fault is stopping it from working.

the insurance counts anyway. Its the tax law that allows you to to the MOT place and back to your place or a place of repair wink
Dont forget it has to be roadworthy too, otherwise you could fall foul of somthing else

Your car has to be roadworthy to have valid insurance, ergo the car won't be insured if it doesn't have a valid MOT. (except in the condition outlined above)

Unlikely, and certainly not as black & white as that statement tends to suggest.

Aside from the fact that an absence of current MOT does not automatically render a vehicle 'unroadworthy', insurers are precluded (by statute) of voiding a policy based on the condition of the vehicle.

I wouldn't like to put this to the test.

It's OK, you don't have to take my word for it - s.148 RTA 1988.

Point taken.

I would still assert that you're asking for your collar getting felt by dixon of dock green and his associates, and a lot of hassle, before you turn out to be right. Not something I'd sail close to myself, which was what I meant in response to the posts pointing out my error. (Although I'm happy to admit I was wrong! smile )

Just one last one. Do I need to do all 3 things within a day, few days to avoid falling foul of a insurance but no tax thing or am I getting confused?

Take out insurance as soon as you like as long as youre covered for the time youre travelling there and back. Do it in good time to get the certificate in your hands.
Assuming you think its roadworthy good tyres lights brakes etc Go for the MOT
Whether it fails or not you can drive back so long as its stil roadworthy
You say its SORN, get the tax when you feel like using it
