Just had a Cayman R for the day whilst my S was having new tyres and cruise fitted, i have been trying to get into a R for a while, when i booked the car in for today they said the R was out and they would give me a Panamera, so was very happy when they gave me the R, all in all an excellent experience and they had to prise the thing out of my hands at the end of the day, it was specced with PSE, PDK, and fixed back sports seats, so a few observations -

1. Ride quality on 19 inch rims around town is very poor, mine has 19's but with PASM which really smooths out the ride, but once out of town and on a good A road it was excellent.
2. The PSE is excellent, very addictive noise (yes I admit I went searching for tunnels and underpasses)
3. PDK, this is the second time I have tried PDK, and the paddles made all the difference to me this time, very intuitive to use in manual and for simply over-riding the box, in auto mode PDK changes up too early and sport mode is a waste of time, I spent most of the day in manual, it is a great box, seamless acceleration and the way it blips the throttle on the downchange is great fun, I am a confirmed Manual box driver but I think I would have PDK,
4. The seats are very supportive and very comfortable but I deny anybody to get out of them with any grace!
5. The handling, it felt a bit more 'pointy' than mine, but tons of grip
6. The door pulls!, get rid of them and fit proper handles

Overall a belter of a car, much better than my Gen 1 S, very quick, rapid acceleration due to PDK, I can't see why you would want anymore for the road it is easy to go very quickly indeed, and the PDK box in manual makes it all flow very well together in the twisty bits

The downsides, well I want one very badly now, and perhaps the slow speed ride quality would make it harder to live with as a daily driver so would have to be a weekend car, apart from that I am struggling to see why I would not have one, they are very very good indeed.

I think if more 911 owners drove them they would sell loads more,
Cayman R is a awesome car.

Its a Car that would tempt you too look for an extra 10k when purchasing a Gen2 Cayman S. lol

Nice write up. How did you find the pace of it comparing with your Gen1, was there a easily noticeable difference.

Yes the extra pace was noticeable in my opinion, I drove it over the same roads that I use mine on and found myself arriving at corners with an extra 10 - 15 MPH on the clock, and one other observation there is a bump on the entry to a fast right hander on one of my favourite twisties that really upsets the rear of my S, the R was unmoved by it

Certainly enjoying mine. They're not bad are they? Interestingly not long after I got it I drove a chums BoxsterS PDK back to back with my manual car. I was initially worried that I might not notice too much of a difference between them..... I needn't have been. Whilst The PDK made the acceleration seem similar there is a dramatic difference in the way they corner. The R is considerably flatter, more composed and consequently faster. Also the PSE on mine really makes a great noise adding to the experience. I had initially considered a C2S but must say so far very happy with my choice.

Did 2000 miles in a week in the courtesy Cayman R

Now a very happy owner

Yeah 370Z and GTR are miles apart, one is a warm GT car, the other is an all out mental hooligan. biggrin
