Anthem X4 vs Camber Comp vs Spark 70 vs anything else

Hi

I'm looking at either a giant Anthem x4, Camber Comp or a Scott Spark 70. Which is likely to be the best allround bike? Any other idea's for the same money? I love the giant but can't decide to have a change to the specialized. Help

Well I brought an 2011 Giant Anthem X3 from pedal on for £1295 and am really pleased, got it 3 weeks ago, have raced it and done a lap of Cannock on it, really pleased with it, found no problems must confess first suspension bike but does everything I want.

The Anthem won loads of bike of the year awards and things because the maestro rear suspension design was so good when it was first introduced, read some of the reviews from 2009/2010. everyone praised it becuase it was repsonsive, great handling and enabled you to get the power down.

I'm a bit of a Spesh fanboy. I almost bought a 2012 Camber Comp but instead picked up a 2011 Stumpy Comp for the same sort of price. The Stumpy has a better spec when compared, you might still be able to find some around.

Just a thought.

A friend of mine went for a Canyon AM 6.0 for a similar price which looks nice too.

I've discounted the specialized but now seen a Cannondale RZ 21 has anyone got any experience of these?

And the awards are worth jack IMO. [broken record]I bought a Whyte 46 on the strength of the 10/10s and 5 star reviews and the build quality was poor and it was a dog under braking and on twisty singletrack. And I wasn't the only one to think so.[/broken record]

IME use the awards to narrow down your short list but buy after a proper ride. But I agree, always have a look at the STW and MTBR reviews as well - OP you'd be surprised how often the two don't align.

Smooth pedaler?
Brake hard?
Jump?

Go to a bike shop and talk to someone who vcan advise you once you have answered those questions. Best advice you will get on a forum.
