Hey brahs, wanting to socialise and get fit at the same time.

How can you find a running club near you? is there such thing where 30 odd people meet up and go for a run somewhere every week and then meet up or go for a drink afterwards? Or is it only big events like the 5k and 10k run?

You may find running clubs that finish a session with a drink quite rare. Why not go and see what your local one is all about?

The following should give you some idea of local clubs - not exhaustive though (black mark against UKA...)

ETA I was a member of one of the larger clubs and they had a bar in the clubhouse and (slightly less driven) members were prone to the odd pub visit (cough).

Thought it was Hash House Harriers? Probably just my perverse mind, as hash hound harriers makes far more sense, seeing as though it's following a trail.

OP - that's the club you're after. The running isn't overly strenuous and the social life is pretty good and based on humour. They do tend to have a pint after each run, and the meets start and finish in a pub. Haven't done one myself for a few years as the nearest one to me is a bit of a hike. Think the HHH lot describe themselves as 'drinkers with a running problem'.

It is Hash House Harriers.

The two links above will help you find your local running clubs and groups although the UKA one is (as usual) difficult to use as they seem to expect you to know the name of the club or training venue before searching rolleyes

From the OP, it sounds like the best fit would be a running group based from a gym rather than a UKA-affiliated athletics club. I'd find my local gyms and see if any of them have a running group.

OP:

Google XXXX Athletics Club

For XXXX, insert any or all major towns and cities within a reasonable distance. If you don't find a single club, I'll be astonished.

For your local races, have a look on their website at who organises them. It's usually a local club.

My local running clubs meets back at the cricket club after for a drink.

Once a month we have a run and eat, go to a local pub, order food, go for run, come back and eat, Last week 34 people did the run and then 28 people stayed for the food.

you could look at this page to see if any races local to you and see who the contract details are, as they may be part of the running club.
