Not sure how much there is a following for the 944, but here goes.

Here's my 944 S2 I recently bought as a track car. It needs some TLC but otherwise it's nearly good to go.

Loads of people here with a soft spot for the 944. If I had a pound for every person who's said to me they wish they'd kept theirs, as it was the best car they've ever owned, I'd be able to buy another one! smile

Can anyone please recommend any road legal track tyres?

EMC Motorsport have recommended Dunlop DZ03G - At £700 for a set it's quite a hit.

Camskill have Yokohama AD08 for £468.

My front tyres are on the wear limit, but the rear tyres (Uniroyal Rain Sport 2) still have plenty of life in them and they're even cheaper at £182/pair.

IF you are a track novice, I'd advise road rubber för your 1st seasön, you'll learn a lot more than on stickies.

Not a novice, but not a seasoned professional either. I've done about 6 track days in previous cars before.
I'm tempted to just buy a pair of Uniroyal Rain Sport 2 for the fronts. Keep costs down. Then if I find some cheap second-hand wheels buy some more track focused tyres for that set.

The Dunlops are very forgiving tyres, last well if not burned up and are surprisingly decent in the wet. They go off slowly which is both good and bad depending on application, in my case it was trying to race on a set that had already done 4k miles but still had some tread left. They do create a polarised opinion though, there are some who reckon there just the best list 1B tyre overall period. There are others however who don't like them. There is a very good reason though to use them even for a complete novice and its simply that they will work well for a fairly long period of time. Lots of guys use them in CSCC racing which are all 40 minute races and they hold up really well, switch on within about a lap but last well.

It's crazy I know, especially after all the time I've put in to the car.
But I've bought myself a VX220 now, so the S2 is surplus to requirements.
