Evening folks,
Just after some quick advice, I've had my renewal quote through from my insurance company (Think Lord Nelsons rank), anyway the quote for my 120d was £760.52, now ive been on comparison sites and the same insurance company came up this time it was £542. Obviously its a no brainer to cancel the renewal, however what would peoples advice be?, i.e. ring the insurance company and say why have you quoted me £760 when with yourselfs on a new policy i could get it for £542. And hopefully they will honour the lower price.

Anyone else had similar?

Regards

Every insurance company I've ever been with have done the same and everyone has matched the quote their website has given me.

I think they hope that you won't check and will just accept the renewal thus making them a quick extra £200.

Can't be much help but MR Nelson has driven me mad this week. They are incompetent. A letter to their complaints dept has been sent. Upon renewal I shall be jumping ship.

Allow existing Policy renewal to lapse ~ then take out new policy as a 'new business' client and save money.

Over the years, lost count of the times I've done this and saved 100s.

It did not used to be like that in pre-rip-off-UK. Then, my renewal invitation was ALWAYS less than I paid the previous year provided no claims of course.

Just had the same thing with my insurance company. got the renewal and thought it was a bit OTT. Went online and they weren't one of the companies quoting. Gave them a call and it was almost £300 cheaper with a new quote from the same company! Decided to go with that, naturally, but I do dislike that they didn't provide me with the more reasonable quote first off.

Had the same two weeks ago ... The bank with the horse.... Renewal figure was £609 Fully comp for business use... went on to a comparison site (which I used last year to get the insurance) and it was £480...

Rang them and asked if the were going to honour the web price and they said they couldn't so I asked them to cancel the roll over renewal and have ended up with Swintons who were £448...

I must be the odd one out, my renewal was around 800 quid cheaper than the nearest online quote! And even then i knocked off another 100 quid. Paid 850fc at 19 on a 1.6tdci focus 2010 model.

Always phone around and search online get the best price

Next always give your urgent ins co an opportunity to match the best quote you have had - as you dot want to leave as cover has been great this last year. They may match it or not some will some wont some will be better sleds worth asking.

I had the same problem (insane renewal price) but as I have 2 cars I decided to stick to Admiral... I did some shopping around too and it comes to around the same price if taken out separately. I did give them a call and quote some quick references from a famous online comparison site and knocked 300-ish off the renewal price...

Leave Admiral, they're useless.

Funnily enough, my renewal was the cheapest offer I had, less than last year. Was with Elephant if that helps. Been fielding calls from other brokers and none could match it.

The insurance business looks like a dark art, but I suspect half of it is just made-up as they go along.

Well been with them for 3+ years and they've been ok but I got to agree they are getting worse...

Owning 2 cars I still can't find a genuine policy that matches Admiral though. You can't trust the online quote 100% as you will need (in most cases) to call them and speak to them directly.

I'm with Green Insurance, as well as being reasonably cheap they offset the carbon your car produces and can do everything via email so the trees don't get cut back down to make paper. hippy

That's the one, except my insurer wanted £372 more through the comparison site compared to the quote they gave me over the phone.

Just done my car insurance tonight.

My renewal from a very large animal with a trunk came to £950. Taking out a new policy from Lord Nelson (which is a parent company of said former I believe), with less excess and both mods which I plan to do to my car declared, was over £200 less.

When I spoke to large animal lady she said they would have honoured it but IMO it was just easier to cancel and start again. Funny because last year when I switched from Lord Nelson to large trunk animal, they said at the time they couldn't match the price.

Insurance is a bit of a hassle!

Never do the renewal, even if they match the website price.

Do the new customer website price through a cashback website and get yourself a further ~£50 off.
