Just looking for some advice about what media to put into my 3rd filter. I currently have a well stocked 200 litre tank filtered by a fluval U4 and a 205, however i wanted more flow and so my girlfriend got me a fluval 206 for my birthday.
Now my question is which media should i use? I was thinking of using purigen in one compartment but not sure about the other 2. Biggest problem I currently have in my tank is probably nitrates that's controller via weekly 30% WC.
Any suggestion welcome.. Thanks!

I assume fresh water tank. Marine can be similar but may need other stuff too.
I use Eheim filter media which is called "Ehfisubstratpro". Works really well and lasts for years. Before this some decent mechanical filtering and after some filter floss to get the last bits out of the water.
To help with the Nitrates there are a few ways of doing it. In freshwater I use JBL BioNitrat Ex which works really well. I have had a bit of a problem using it in marine tanks so I use something else for that. Its not a substitute for water changes but it does help keep things at a more manageable level.

Yeah sorry freshwater. My U4 internal has all the standard pads and biomax in it, the 205 currently has 4 foam pads, fluval prefilter in the bottom basket, biomax in the top 2 and a small layer of floss at very top.I use Eheim filter media which is called "Ehfisubstratpro". I was thinking for the 206 to have the 4 foam pads, water polishing pad in bottom, biomax/substrat in middle and then seachem purigen in the top.

That should work well.
If you are getting rid of the other filters you should transfer the media from them into the new one (not wanting to tell you how to suck eggs!)to keep the cycle going properly etc

this 206 is getting sent back though! 5 minutes in and it started leaking from the main seal!Gassing Station | All Creatures Great & Small | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
