Hi all heres a weired one ? pulled my ultima out of hibanation saturday but even though it had been on condition trickle charge it turned over a bit slower than normal ( my thinking is maybe the battery is on last legs its an oddesey 625 at least 5 years old ?? ) well anyway took it for a spin all ok , moved it out of garage this evening to work on other car and yep its a bit slugish again , after working on other car , i pull ultima back into garage and it starts a treat , so once back in garage i run a few checks, check battery voltage 12.8 , put lights on and and it drops just under 12 volt ( this is not with the engine running ) so restart engine and spins over great , ( cant make it not start ) so i pull the coil lead and wiz it over for a bit to see how much grunt the battey s got in it ? after and about the forth bout of turning it over the performance of starter drops off , and then on the 5th turn ( dont get me wrong these are not some sort of marathon session on the start button just the length you might expect on a cold start senario ) the starter stops dead like iv took my finger off the button , and also the fuel pump has stopped running , and when i leave the ignition off the imobalizer doesnt arm , ( ie no red L E D ) , Iv checked all the fueses im thinking iv popped a hidden ?? fuse to the imobilizer. Anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas please?
Cheers

I would check all your earth connections for corrosion. Whip them off, give them a rub with emery cloth, coat with petroleum jelly and reconnect.

You may have overheated the starting system/immobiliser which will need to cool down before it resets.

Of course everything I have said above could be complete ba**ocks but it might be worth a try.

BTW. The sluggish starting could be an earth problem or a knackered cell in the battery.

Does the car have a master fuse?
A clue will be what wires are connected to the + term on the battery. If it is a cluster of brown wires into one big crimp and the starter cable then no master fuse. If a single heavy cable plus the start cable then I would suspect you need to go hunting a fuse. It can only be behind the fuse panel or sitting on the top of the front bulkhead just above the passengers toes.

Its the type with mutiple brown wires, im still getting power to lights and ignition switch, when i turn ignition on i get oil and charge light but fuel pumps not powering up and engine not turning over. Just like when imobalizer has not been activated. I appriciate iv got two probs here 1. A battery that may ( or may not? ) be on its way out. 2. Some thing that has failed when i was checking the battery out under load. Either imobilzer its self ( no red l e d when ignition turned off ) or a failed joint to the imobilzer? its a cobra imobilizer, has anyone else had any issues with these?

Try a Surface Reset...disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and see if either the immobiliser or ECU has hung up.

Hi sorted / sussed it , it would seem the imobilizer didnt like the engine being turned over with a low battery and the starter motor still trying to pull the the same amount of amps , i can only think to many amps were being pulled through the starter relay circuit and that pulled through the imobilizer ?? iv by passed the imimobilizer easy really as it was only covering the starter and fuel pumps circuits , new battery on order , and time to fit a decent alarm ( mind you the cars never out of my sight when im out ), cheers for advice and ideas
