Ignore function

It does not exist. And it will not. Fortunately we've all got one built into our computers, it's called a scroll wheel 
If there's someone being actively disruptive to a thread then please feel free to report their posts and moderators will take a look. This does not of course guarantee that their posts will/would be removed. This is at the mods discretion and opinion while taking our posting rules into consideration.
ETA: the reasons for us not building one are many and varied. ranging from the technical (it doesn't exists on this forum, we'd have to write one to do it and we've got lots on our plates anyway) to the fact that hiding (and not showing where they're hidden) posts disrupts the flow of a topic. If you start hiding people you don't like the topics swiftly become disjointed and difficult to follow. You'll have people exclaiming about why no-one has mentioned X when Person Y said that (obviously not being aware because they've blocked the person who mentioned it).
It's easier and less disruptive to just not read someones posts

Hi not sure I agree with the scroll wheel keeping the flow of the thread going as if you are not wanting to see someones comments, you just end up spending your life double checking that person/s are not writing, being quoted etc and the thread is still somewhat disjointed. Sadly for me it means my returns are getting to be fewer fewer as it is just not worth the hassle of having to manually edit everything especially on forums that I used to realy like and be active in:-(If there's someone being actively disruptive to a thread then please feel free to report their posts and moderators will take a look. The "Swiss Cheese Effect" it would have on threads would be noticeable and IMHO detrimental to the site.

How would your idea work for quoting? If, for example, I had ignored you but someone else hadn't and quoted you in a thread, would I see your post in their post? If not, how would you achieve that? If so, doesn't that negate a benefit of the ignore function?
I just wrote a chrome extension which does this after seeing this post. Pain in the bum for non-techy-folk to update though. Will work on it a little more to simplify it and keep you all posted

On a number of different forums I have seen it work in more or less the same way, all posts/qouted posts retain the user or Member ID and whenever a post/quoted post contains that unique ID the portion pertaining to the ID is blanked.It is not that hard to achieve in reality and I think that anything that reduces bans and/or petty arguing can only be a good thing. In the mean time I will continue to pretty much avoid forums that have correspondants that contribute failrly regularily that I want to avoid.
