Bike Discounts

Im in the market for something new (an aly roadie) and see that a lot of people use this cycle scheme to get discounts. I'm not employed in the UK so my employer can't register but does anyone know if you can bargain with any retailers?

I'm really looking at a Ribble but I'm under the impression that these are a 'price you see = price you pay' sort of outfit.

I think most of the big boys (presuming you'll want outside of the UK delivery) will do price matching. But the problem is almost all retailers have the same selling price.

From what I understand the manufacturers have quite strict contracts with the retailers meaning they don't have much movement on price.

Look for a 2011 Model...
I have just secured a 2011 Giant XTC-1 for £1k- orighinal RSP @ £1695.

Significantly better spec than the 2012 model (which admittedly retails quite a bit lower than the old model at £1295)- and therefore also £300 cheaper...

Some shops will price match like for like if in stock.

it is true that sometimes distributers get grumpy if the retailer tries to discount products, but usually this just means they cant advertise it at a lower price.

best way is to try ringing up and asking if they can come down on the price at all, you might get lucky, and the worst they can do is say no.

also, look around for last years stuff.

I've just bought a 2012 Reaction GTC SL for 8% off retail.

So there is discount to be had.
