I'm struggling to find a highly respected place for full wheel alignment in the south-east. WIM in Bucks sounds like the place to go, but it's a 150 mile round trip for me which would push the cost up to the best part of £150.

Does anyone know of any garages with excellent knowledge of Mx5s ideally North Kent or South Essex? I went to Dixon Motorsport in Erith once, they had a Hunter machine but I didn't feel it was a very professional service. I want a personal set-up, as I want something a bit sharper than stock settings, but not too twitchy on the road.

Good call - has a couple of STS Tyre Pros listed on my doorstep. I always thought these were a Kwik-Fit type outfit?!

I just had mine done last weekend at TyreMax in South Woodford. Although they're on the WIM site, it was apparent they have never aligned an MX-5 before. However, they were happy to align to my specific requested settings and in the end I think did a good job. Didn't even complain when I emptied my boot all over their floor and requested to sit in the car for final adjustments. Cost about £125 due to the number of adjustments on the Mazda.

I tried to book my last Mk 1 in with one of the STS Tyre places a while ago, they didn't seem very keen on doing the work, said they would call back and never did.

Think I'll be taking my current one to WIM themselves, when it's back from the garage.

I actually spoke to Tony at WIM and he had no recommendations down south, he said the STS tyre pros will be coming off their map actually. I think the trip round to them will be worth it, so think I'll just budget in the extra fuel and see them.

I've not yet used WIM but everyone I know that has says nothing but good things, so i'd say they will be worth the trip. Will be going to see them very shortly.

That's reassuring, when I went to one of the places on their website, specifically for that reason.

Go to WIM - they aren't highly regarded for no reason.

Have a chat to Essex Autosport in Romford. They have a long history in Lotus Elise geo's so if you can get a WIM profile I'm sure they could work with you to tweak it.

Btw, had mine setup by WIM at the same time as new GG Pros and the car pulled to the left like billy-o - didnt notice until I was a fair distance away on a smooth straight road and it was too late/inconvenient to turn around.

As I have the settings now I'll just find somewhere local. Cba to drive all that way again.

My friend went there with his MX Mk1 and was very happy. In fact, our entire posse is trying to arrange a day where we all show up and have it done.

I have no personal experience of them yet though.

Can't really help with a local recommendation but I drove from Essex to WIM to get my Mazda done.

Highly recommended, fast efficient and does what it says on the tin. A bit dear maybe but hard to fault.

Fast road settings have transformed my little puddle jumper, it now handles really well. If anything I think I'll get it tweaked a little to dial in some oversteer back in next year. I have to be really aggressive/stupid to get it of shape now, it's almost a bit boring :-).

I would be happy going anywhere that has the right machine to do the work. I went in with the settings I wanted (WIM fast road found on Nutz) and just told them this is what I want. Set it up exactly to those settings for £50.

Not sure where you are based, a lot of mx5 use Supertyres in Maldon Essex, I had my mk1 done by Tony when I first got it about 3 years ago and had it re done by supertyres last year for a track day at Brands Hatch seem to be fine, I think thye charge £ 60-65.00.
