People who don't take roundabouts properly.
Discussion
You know the ones I mean.
People who cut across the inside lane when they're meant to be in the outside lane just because they're too lazy to drive round it properly. Twice in the past 3 days i've had to slam on because someones done that when i've been alongside them and the first time the stupid old bint stopped and started shaking her head at me like it was in some way my fault.
Am I the only one who comes across these idiots regularly?

You shouldn't have to slam on the brakes really, if it's as common as you say (and I agree with you whole heartedly, people do it all the time without looking) then you should expect them to do that, and position yourself accordingly so you aren't at risk.
You can then safely prepare to beep the horn at the fools when they cut you up, and be very smug that your prediction came true

Slam on was probably the wrong word, I do usually anticipate it (the one that happened today that made me write it I saw coming) the one with the woman the other day we both pulled onto the roundabout at the same time so was a bit different.
Straightlining roundabouts I don't have a problem with, I do it myself sometimes if its quiet but not if someone is in the lane next to me or without checking to make sure beforehand.

Quite often, a nice road to white rose centre in leeds, national speed limit - roundabout - national speed limit - 40 - roundabout. I do it too but only when no ones near me People who cut across the inside lane when they're meant to be in the outside lane just because they're too lazy to drive round it properly. I get this daily.
Dont get me wrong, im all fot a bit of apex clipping when no-one else is around, but I cant understand people who cant stay in lane.
I had it happen once, I was in my old mk4 fiesta. Knobbo was in a brand new e class merc, I literaly had to take evasive action to avoid a collision, pulled up next to him and asked if merc had stopped putting mirrors on their new cars, he replied with "learn to drive" and sped off giving me the wker hand shake.
I won't say what happened next, but im glad ive grown up a bit, as it wasnt only him scarred for his life in the minutes that followed.
I know reatalliation is the worst thing as the whole episode just escalates, but why cant people just accept they have done wrong

I live in Milton Keynes and i have had to develop a sixth sense for the people that do this.
As the OP says, i sometimes give a very quick press on the horn to try and educate them but it just ends up with them shaking their head and indicating that I am in the wrong
Edited for spelling

I cut them whenever I can, but always make sure there's nobody coming up the inside.
So I guess I'm off the hook as long as I see you http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/imgs/10.gif

Harlow has many roundabouts and many retards! I can see it coming a mile off but part of me wants to be next to them so they st themselves. It gives me the vain hope then next time they may go round/across the roundabout properly.
Some people are drivers and like cars and driving correctly, others use cars like washing machines (white goods), then you get the "I must be a safe and competant driver because I obey the speed limit" brigade. They are a major nusiance on our roads as they have had it drummed into them for years that obeying the S/L is the most important aspect of motoring.
I often see driving instructors displaying woefully inept manouvers so what chance do their pupils stand?

There are a lot of roundabouts close to where I live that have no road markings and are pretty much a free for all when it comes to lane discipline.
Being used to them, I tend to hang back a little and just watch the carnage as lights flash, horns sound and fists get waved. There seems to be a collision reported in the local news weekly, but since the speeds are below 30 mph there is little point in putting in a "safety camera", and local residents have been raising the issue for years but nothing seems to be done. But some very nice metal sculptures have also been added to the roundabouts and roadsides, so that's OK.
(Reginald Mitchell Way for those in the know - lots of markings on the approach, and a rather cool concrete tribute to RJM on the grass bank!)

Simple solution here:
Instead of trying to overtake them on the inner lane of the roundabout, just follow them in their lane on to the entry and when they veer across towards the crown of the roundabout, point, shoot and squirt down their nearside. Sorted.
Good driving hints for a better tomorrow.
