Id like to know more about these, and I know some on here love them, so over to you - methods, costs, recommendations, the lot please.

In case of doubt, I mean these things :

Anyone seen an electric version ?

Not listening to any one who say buy the bean to cup machines or Nespresso (already own)either.

That one looks a tad grubby. hehe

They're very good, mine's a six cup I think which makes one mug. Three heaped teaspoons of ground coffee. Bob's your uncle.

There are lots of different ways to make coffee. Those things work well, but it depends whether you want filter, espresso, frothed milk, one cup or many, etc.

Give us a few more clues!

for me, they make the best tasting coffe, although need a bit more time to prep, make and clean that other methods.

cant beat them for a big mug of Cafe Au Lait though.

Just beenlooking at the price of instant and thinking its getting way to expensive for what it is, andthinking about alternatives tbh.

Nespresso is very good but too dear for a daily cuppa in our household.

The cheapest coffee maker is this, plus filter papers:

Get some decent coffee in it and you're away. Nespresso scores for convenience and the fact the coffee in the capsules stays fresh, but there are far cheaper ways to make good coffee at home.

Despite what I said above, I use a filter cone at the office every day (per MC's recommendation). Cheap, quick and simple. Very good coffee.

I use one of these probably everyday. It makes a very decent base espresso which of course you then flavour to taste (add milk, water etc)

In combination with decent, freshly* roasted freshly ground beans it will deliver great coffee.

Tip: boil the water before you put it in the pot, and take it off the heat when the coffee goes a honey colour

* well, within a few weeks

I've had a few stove-top jobbies in the past but found that they always seem to scorch the coffee and make it too bitter - what was I doing wrong?

I use a high pressure machine similar to this these days (and am in fact sampling it's output as I type!)

Always found the gadgedty ones, well, gadgedty. Image in the OP, I have a stainless steel one, after seeing what the water looked like in the bottom of one of those I binned it. Next best purchase is the insulated filter. Superb. Easy to clean, no fuss with pods and space taken on the counter, works every time.

Bialetti do an electric one, which is really just a stovetop one sitting on an element. Never seen it in the UK, but was in their store in Florence.

I have a Bialetti 3 cup. Makes great coffee, quick and easy.
That will give me 2 mugs of good strength when diluted water. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house so it's cheaper than a pob machine. I use Waitrose Espresso ground coffee after searching around for something I liked.

That's the badger. I suspect they stopped selling it here, because it looks like if you take the pot off, you have an exposed and very very hot element anyone could touch...

The kettle bit on mine is really skanky inside too, but I can't bear myself to throw it away.
I've convinced myself that the packed coffee will filter out any impurities in the water like aluminium hehe

As this can buy anywhere and produces great coffee, all good Spanish/French houses use one daily
