Dawn Raid II. The Official Announcement.
Discussion
Right, time to make it official. After much prevarications, and apologies for that, the date for the Dawn Raid II will be Saturday, 31st July 2004. Start point will be at the Travel Inn in Macclesfield Tytherington, details at: www.travelinn.co.uk/TI/index.jsp?page=inn&id=133
Start time: 6.00am or earlier if agreed.
You can book the Travel Inn without obligation provided you cancel by the set time, 12 noon on the day I think. This is for those who want to make a bit more of the run, a chance to meet up for a drink and a bite to eat the night before, and of course you won’t have to get up in the middle of the night to get to the start on time.
The route will be approx 130 miles long. It will consist mainly of fast A-classified roads. There will be some B roads. Non classified roads will be at a minimum, although there will be one 15 mile section, necessary to join everything together. This has a section of road at the start the surface of which is not great, but soon smoothes out. It's not too narrow, either. Overall the route is much faster than the last Dawn Raid.
The route will take in some of the best driving roads in Derbyshire, and indeed in the whole of England. We’re talking Cat & Fiddle, Congleton road, Snake Pass, Long Hill, Strines Moor and much, much more. It would be difficult to put better roads to use in one run.
I must give a warning however: We are talking proper driving roads here. Men’s roads. You will need to be on your mark at all times, there are one or two wicked blind crests into slow to medium corners. It’s not feasible to mark them in the roadbook for many reasons, so you all will need to be driving with due concentration. There are also some terrific fast open stretches where the road can be seen for some distance. Again, be on your guard; don’t get lulled into a situation you can’t deal with.
For the most part the route will be just sensational. Like I said, possibly the best in England in my opinion. Derbyshire really is terrific driving country. It has really great roads stretching over the moors, and at that time in the morning they will be empty. They’ll be just ours to play on for a perfect 3 - 4 hours or so.
I’m off to Le Mans now, for the classic event. I’ll be back Monday pm next and will answer any queries then.
TTFN,
Nonny.

The last one took so long partly due to the inability of the TVR contingent to not break down unlike the Kaiserwagen and the Japmobile!
Christ Ian, the way you go on about all of us TVR drivers, I honestly hope you never break down!
You also seem to think that only you and Nonny want to take part and the reason people are having trouble attending is because they can't be bothered. I don't understand why you think like this
I personally think that Porsches are great cars and was genuinely sorry that out of the three Porsches that I know who were coming to BNG, the two 911 variants had to drop out due to mechanical problems. Do you hear any TVR drivers taking the piss... no, you hear us saying that it's a damn shame two of our mates couldn't bring their cars up... though Martyn did take the time out to come up in his Shogan
Hopefully I will be available for DR III as I am really gutted not to be able to make this one... if the car doesn't break down that is

Not touchy at all Ian and no offence has been taken as I know you're a top bloke to drive with and talk to. But I know that if I had got up at 4am, travelled 100 odd miles, then broken down in the middle of nowhere due to some stupid relay that the AA man couldn't find, then I would be pretty fed up.
As it is, I am just really really peed off that I can't make it, especially after the report you and Nonny did of the trial run.
See you on III hopefully, maybe not in the TVR though
