CSL airbox upgrade on a CS hmmm
Discussion
Hi all
Just wanted some opinions on the idea of sometime in the future doing an OEM CSL airbox upgrade on my CS.
After doing a bit of research I realised there was quite a bit to it and your also looking at £2500 to do a full upgrade so whether its worth it or not is another question entirely.
My question is more along the lines of is it right to upgrade the CS to get that CSL sound? After all its clearly not a CSL! The CS is a beast in it's own right in my opinion and I love the fact mine is completely standard. That said the sound of that induction roar is just awesome. I see some normal M3s with the CSL bootlid (with badge) and CSL carbon fibre splitter etc and personally I cant stand it! Just save up and buy a CSL don't just pretend!
Just be interested to know what your thoughts are.
Cheers
James

It's A LOT more than 2.5k to do it. The genuine OEM CSL airbox alone goes for > £3k S/H. Think closer to 4.5k all in fitted with all the associated upgrade parts, remap etc.
I have also contemplated doing this after endless playbacks of Codezilla on YouTube.
Try a AC Schnitzer exhaust on it. It does give a deeper more race car like sound when you stamp on the gas.

I'd be shocked if you can do it for much under £4k, especially if you use a genuine CSL airbox. I priced it up for my Z4MC and taking into account the carbon fibre box(genuine £3k+, other make £2.5+) plus the Alpha N remap (£800) plus the actual fitting time the best I could get was £3600 with a non OEM box.
Bloody hell!
Thanks for the info I think that puts that idea to bed.
It's a great sound but that's a lot of money you can buy a really good car for that lol
I will have a look at the exhaust option but I do love the standard setup so will probably just save the cash.
Thanks for your help

If you are considering modifying your CS I think Evolve will be able to deliver what your looking for for just under 3k; still big money but they deliver the goods. They've developed their own CSL type airbox and the engineering quality is excellent imho. http://evolveautomotive.com/engine-ecu_656/csl-car...

I forgot about the Evolve airbox! I had discounted it because they don't know if it will fit a Z4M, great value and would go well in the OP's CS. I think there might be a bit of a wait tho, from what I've read production of the box is quite slow.Edited by Greedydog on Wednesday 4th April 11:26
I considered this briefly when I had my CS but for the cost of an OEM box, remap and work you might as well add a couple more grand in the pot and buy a CSL!
I personally think the CS is a great car as it is. It's the perfect evolution of the E46 M3 (CSL is something different altogether) and is best left alone. If you want to mod up an E46 then buy a standard M3.
I would think that an standard CS (especially a good example like yours) would be more desirable when it becomes the time to sell as well.

After 2 weeks pottering around in the works van I took the CS out yesterday for a blast on a local route. When you've been driving something 'normal' for a while then you get back in an M car it really is something else in my opinion

Saw a lovely e39 M5 as I was pulling into the petrol station - don't see many of them down in Cornwall, what a beast.
I know this is sad as it's not the lightest car in the world but I only ever put 1/2 tank of fuel in to keep the weight down
I only drive it at the weekend so no need for range. Yesterday with under 1/4 tank of fuel left, just me in the car she really did shift. I find the car very weight sensitive, with a full tank of fuel and a few passengers it doesn't feel the same. Although I suppose that's probably true of any fast car.Edited by leeson660 on Sunday 8th April 11:00
