Hello all,
Just picked up my Tuscan from Tony Gilbert on Saturday. Having wanted a TVR since I was 14 (now 31) I'm sure you all know how I feel!
Anyway just wanted to drop a quick note to the forum as I read alot of it prior to buying one so you really helped answer a lot of tricky questions.
I have a couple more for you, would appreciate your thoughts..
1) What's the best cover to protect from the elements. Mine's not going to be garaged very often.
2) I want to get Xenon's on it asap. Obviously the option is either the bulbs or full HID upgrade, I'm open to either, any advice / experience would be appreciated. I've seen the upgrade from TVR Power, anyone have these in? If so what do you think?
Cheers!
P.S. I've attached a photo as I know from other posts thats what you want!

Lovely looking motor, best of luck with it!
Re the cover, I'd exercise caution with covers. The problem is they often cause a build-up of moisture, which can exacerbate the dreaded rust. Moisture rises from the ground then has nowhere to go.
I know some claim to allow the car to 'breathe' but if they're waterproof then that can't be true! Another prob is if dust is trapped between the cover and the car and the cover gets blown about by the wind, it can cause tiny scratches. I've had that happen.
I've a mate who's a car sprayer and he hates covers. Tells all sorts of stories about them, especially with fibreglass-bodied cars, of moisture causing the paint to bubble.
His take is that a car should just be left outside if you don't have a garage. That's what it was designed for. Any dirt etc will wash off!
You mention HID lamps, well my S has them as standard, and the packs for them are bolted to the covers just inside the front wings which allow access for bulb changing. However on the S, the HIDs are on the main beam, not the dip, which I think is strange, since most of the time you'll drive with dips on. Then when you switch to mains they take a few seconds to come to full brightness. Useless to flash someone too!
Having said that, once they're on, they're so much better than standard lamps.

Many Congratulations!!
Nice one. Hope you get to use the car a lot. Can't give much comments on the cover, but I can share my experience on upgrading the bulbs. I would tend to upgrade the whole HID set if you can. I did just buy the upgrade bulbs to my old car (not a TVR, a German "ultimate machine" in fact), the upgrade bulbs tend to be hotter or draw more current than the standard ones and it ended up melting the wire and the housing. The whole car was short circuit after a period of time. The dash was flashing like a Christmas tree. Amusing when thinking back, but bloody scary at the time. The Mechanic said lucky that I didn't catch any fire.

Congrats on the car.
I wouldn't bother with a cover. Just make sure you haven't got any leaking problems and leave it outside.
I fitted a cheap ebay HID kit from HK to my Tuscan a few years ago and it's been great. I have them in the dipped beam units, with white led side bulbs to match and upgraded halogens in the main beam. As said already, they are not ideal for main beam/flashing purposes as they don't get to full brightness straight away.

Hello all,
Firstly thanks for the kind words about the car - I can't get enough of it and am loving every minute!
Also, cheers for the advice on the cover and the lights. Just a couple more to follow from what you've said...
1) I appreciate what you've all said about not having a cover, but what about in harsh weather, such as extreme cold / snow in the winter?
2) I've pretty much decided to have a full HID upgrade, the next question is where!? Any thoughts on the TVR Power upgrade? Any others you can suggest? I'd like to get all the lights done not just the mains...
Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Mate,
I used to cover 2 Chims and then my Tuscan for months at a time as work away a lot. Never had any issues. I made sure the car was as dust free as poss first, used those static dust brushes, not always washed so there was no moisture anywhere. Then I'd put a couple of bed sheets over the bodywork first to protect it and these can be easily washed and they stop the exterior cover rubbing on the paint.
Then strap the cover over nice and tight.
I can't remember where I brought the cover, TVR I guess, but it's a heavy duty one and I will be taking it to Europe with me this year as the car will be parked up for a while in the baking sun.

I've got a car cover. Got it made from these guys http://www.specialisedcovers.com/
Not cheap at about £150 or so but at least it fits perfectly and allows the car to breathe so you don't get moisture build up.
Only used it a couple of times because car spends most of it's time garaged, so feel I've wasted my money a little bit

Hello all,
Thanks again for all the advice, it's been invaluable!
I'm holding off on the cover for the moment, and will see what happens come winter.
Re: the Xenons, i'm getting them fitted this Saturday at PCTVR in Melton Mowbray by the chap who does all Paul's electrical work, cant wait!
Thanks again.
P.S. Yes Tony's place is lovely!
