Hello. Just been for a test drive in flying spur. What a car. Big yes but mega quick and so comfortable. Only had the m5 3 months but I think it will be getting chopped in for this Bentley. Any thoughts.

Are you taking up being a chauffeur as a career?

The Bentley is NOT a great drivers car, where the M5 is. The Bentley is a compromise vehicle where the M5 isnt. Costs on the Bentley will be somewhat higher, tyres, servicing etc and depreciation too.

Any M5 is a special vehicle, any Bentley built by VW isnt.

Hats off to you...actually you must be as mad as a hatter but respect is due for even considering such a choice.

If you like it buy it. Life is too short!....however have you tried the Conti GT aswell?....doesnt quite have the same bulk as the Flying Spur and you wont look like a chauffeur on his day off wink

I must admit i looked at these after the M6 over the Conti GT as can't reconcile the image the GT has.

It's certainly a big old bus and, IMHO, it is even more VW than the GT. Saying that it is a lovely drive. Personally I think I looked a right tit driving it that's all. Certainly wouldn't mind sitting in the back but for some reason the wife refused to wear the peaked cap!

Fair point about the hired help aspect. I don't know... there is something about it. I have been used to my Range Rover and the bentley feels special like the RR. The M5 is Epic and I love the M5 dynamics and that engine, but it doesn't feel "special"boxedin, maybe I need more time to gel with it.

Right I am going for a drive in the M5, no kids... no nag bag... Bonding time!!! smile

Your last comment is in your opinion of course. But I think you will find that Bentleys are built by Bentley. That does make them special. What they are not is rare whereas the M5 certainly is.

Objectively I can tell you that the Spur is a big lump to drive everyday in. It is not a great limo, or a great sportscar. But what it is though is hugely fast, surefooted, and great in the snow. It also has a presence and respect amongst others which punches way beyond it's price if bought at 40k. Running costs are not that dissimilar to an E60 in fact. You will be used to 10mpg and expensive consumables. The big ticket service items can make you cough but buy well with a warranty preferably, and enjoy.

M5 is great, but its a long way from uncompomised.... not sure your correct about costs either as the M5 is hugely expensive to run and depreciates like a rock.

I'd say the 2 cars are comparable... one is more sporty, the other is more luxurious.... both are compomised in their design to carry 5 people comfortably.

Saying that, Im far to young to consider a bentley lol
