calling x308 xjr owners, looking for kickdown info

hi guys,

picked up my new 2001 xjr8 yesterday and getting to grips with its characteristics.

Just wanted to check with someone who has one re kickdown in sport mode.

I have noticed it never kicks down into 1st. even if going 10-20mph, seems to stay in 2nd.

what have others found? is this normal?

hello Chris,

you need to be aggressive with it to engage 1st gear, really stamp on the throttle!! there is so much torque going on that it will pull in 2nd unless you do this!
just throw your foot into the carpet, hold tight and enjoy!!!!

Personally I feel 1st is to low other then distroying tyres

By the time you have stapoed spinning tyres and getting into 2nd


Just start in 2nd by the time you nead 3rd your will be further down the road

I'm not sure I've ever noticed mine kick down into first - but then, I don't think I'd really want it to either.

Obviously it'll engage first from stationary when you press the Sport button though.

Just spins up in first and you lose any real pull. Just let it do its thing and it will get you there.

I'll be fitting a Manual in my XKR, should also fit the XJR, in the next couple of weeks

No problem finding the gear you want then!!

i was just getting kinda addicted to the brutal kick in the back you get in 1st lol
