Not bad at all Zig! I'll have two cars to put through an MOT 'cold' this year. The 350i and an ex-army land rover I'm collecting shortly.

I wish all they needed was pedal rubbers and number plates! biggrin

No pedal rubbers on my pedals , in fact they have race type alloy plates , never failed on that.

Cheaper than my wife's Beatle, Mark
Failed MOT today

It is 5 years old and needs new Coil Springs on the front (she is obviously going over speed bumps too fast)
2 new tyres (obviously burning up rubber between speed bumps) and a brake light (just plain worn out)

Your bill for a much older car is therefore much cheaper

Good news Mate

Cheers

I think failing the MOT on worn pedal rubbers or no pedal rubbers is a stupid rule. If it's to avoid your foot slipping off the pedal, it will happen anyway. I deliver to bakers in my van which has good pedal rubbers and most days when I leave the bakery and get in the van with all the flour and yeast and what have you all over the place my foot slips off the pedal no matter what. Especially in the wet. So where is the sense in that. Next they're going to tell us we have to wear special issue rubber sole shoes supplied by VOSA in order to drive any vehicle, and I bet they'll cost an arm and a leg and we'll probably have to get THEM inspected yearly by VOSA.

Well ive extended the washer pump wire and it works...I bought a cheap rubber car mat, Cut the bobbles off the backside of it and used high strength mastic to stick it to the pedal..I have had to order a new number plate as i threw out the old one after i had a chat with a policeman who looked over my car a little while ago..He was admiring the condition of a car thats 30 years old...I did ask him as regards to the number plate and he said "It looks ok..Its readable and the letters look large enough"..But rules are rules however stupid they are..After all we are talking about the safety of the car and it would be dangerous to drive it without a washer pump..A rubber on the brake pedal and a smallish number plate...rolleyes

Im now going to look for a custom brake rubber that has a middle finger in the design..Im going to put a cut out on the washer pump so that the next time he says its not working i will make sure im in the car and ask if he can see if the jets are clear....Washer fluid..straight in his eyes..He then wont be able to read any number plate so he will have to pass it..Oh well it could of been a lot worse..Cheers..Ziga

I did say in another thread -

My Wedge was horribly heavy at low speeds, but doing that lower bearing conversion (in wedgepages I think) made a *HUGE* difference. Obviously the angles of the column and connector make the shaft partially bind on that cheap nasty plastic ring, and a proper bearing stops it. The whole column feels better located too.

Recommended for anyone with heavy steering !
