'77 Porsche 911 3.0S

Does anyone have any idea of the cost of decent recon:

Transmission (5 speed)
Gear linkage
Fuel pump
Cooling system - rad, waterpump, hoses
Alternator

I know it is a bit of a donkey question but a rough estimate would be good before I buy this project

The radiator and water pump would cost nothing to recon, in fact they would cost nothing to replace with brand new items (air cooled - not water cooled).

Is the car a Carrera 3 or a SC?

Durrrr, wha a spazz I am.

Just thinking back over the list of my last (water cooled, obv) restoration.

I'm saving cash already, this is looking better and better!

The car is an S, defo not an SC, RS or anything else super pricey.

Edit - it is the Carrera 3 - 1976-1977, they didn't make too many of them. 3.0, 200bhp unit.

Isn't it bodywork that costs loads on 911's?
Sills, A&B Pillars (kidney bowls) headlamp buckets and screen surrounds are all given to timworm.
Porsche started galvanising in 76 (I think) but they are still susceptible.

I am still giving serious thought to creating a Citroen SM Works breadvan. £20k to buy a knackered SM donor car though, whereas this Porsche is a lot less. May do both

Just had 100% buy in from the wife on the pork too, which is nice.

I saw a minty 1973 911 yesterday, and a right rusty one last weekend. Those early 911s are pretty groovoid, and I speak as someone who is not the biggest Porsche fan ever.

Had an engine and box rebuilt (2 different cars) by Chilham sports cars in Kent,I know its a long way from you, but found them honest and a wealth of knowledge. They were very reasonably priced too! Might be worth a call

If (and its a big if) I can get some local storage and a place to work on it I'm thinking I've got about £5k, all the tools, some skill and a good friend to help (I'm looking at you johnfm tvvatbks )

There would be no urgency to race through it, it would be a true project to be worked on for fun. I'll inevitably take it down the rally route though.

I know I can't rebuild a gearbox and deep depths of the engine are beyond me but I can tinker and sort the suspension, electrics, interior fir etc. Another big cost will be the respray though.

Heh, we could use one of those.

After a bit of research I reckon it will need gearbox reconditioned or replaced, top end rebuild, new disks/calipers/pads, interior retrim, suspension and geometry sorted and the body work and respray.

I feel confident with brakes, suspension, interior strip and rebuild, pre-paint prep, the rest I'd probably have done.

Check out DDK if you haven't already as whilst it's early car focused much of the 70's cars are the same and there is plenty of love for the Carrera 3.0 on there.

£5k for the list you describe is ambitious even using your own spanners, sorting my 915 box has set me back over a grand in parts and I did the work myself. Once you open the engine then how long is a piece of string It's a fun way to lose your money though.

If it's rusty either walk away or be prepared for long term commitment to welding practice...
