Resignation Letter
Discussion
Today I used;
"Dear X and Y,
It is with regret that I hereby offer my resignation from the role of XXX.
My current contract states that my notice period is XX; I therefore assume my last day will be YY.
I remain grateful for the oppurtunity ZZ has given me but feel that the role is ultimately unsuited to me.
Yours sincerely,
AAA"

"Please accept this as formal notice of my resignation.
As per my terms of employment, my final day will be DDth MMM YYYY.
Regards."

Why do so many people get this wrong...
The first thing is to ensure that when you resign, is that you tell your boss face to face, explaining the reasons in a professional and constructive manner. There is NOTHING more irritating than someone who doesn't even have the balls to tell you to your face.
Having done that, the 'template' letter should be as follows;
"Dear XXX
Further to our recent conversation, after careful consideration, I have decided that the time is right for me to leave XXX org. I am writing to formally confirm my resignation, effective of today's date.
I am aware that, contractually, my notice period is x months and that my 'official' leaving date will be xx/xx/xx. I am conscious however that extended periods are rarely productive for either party and woud, therefore, be happy to discuss mutually agreeable arangements for shortening this period.
In closing, I would like to thank you and xxx org for your support in my time with you and to wish you well for the future.
Yours sincerely

I intend to sit down and talk to my line manager as well as the directors of the company (small company and I used to report directly to them so know them well) and tell them I'm resigning, but want a letter to give them at the same time to ensure there is sufficient paper trail!The first thing is to ensure that when you resign, is that you tell your boss face to face, explaining the reasons in a professional and constructive manner.
