Join PH at the Le Mans Classic

Traditional PH camping delights for lovers of Le Mans, old school style

PistonHeads is camping for the first time at this year's Le Mans Classic thanks to pitch masters 1st-Tickets. We have our usual spot just a few minutes walk from the circuit, paddock and pit lane on Bleu Nord.

The Classic takes place every two years and is rightfully gaining popularity with each event. It's expected to attract over 100,000 visitors this time around with 400 competing cars built from 1923 to 1979, and 1,000 drivers on the track. Unlike the 'proper' Le Mans it isn't one continuous 24-hour race, but a variety of races for different categories, due to the huge speed differentials between the different classes - imagine chugging along in your Bentley 3-litre with Porsche 917s zipping past at 200mph-plus and you can appreciate why!

We have a 6000sq m pitch with roughly 100 PH spaces and, if you're quick enough, you can grab one of the remaining few. We open from Thursday July 5 and will be kicking you off on the morning of July 9.

Chill out in the PH marquee

Those of you, who have joined us at Le Mans before will no doubt vouch for the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Secure fencing surrounds the site and our private PH marquee has a cash bar, fresh coffee, daily bread deliveries and phone/camera charging points. Camping doesn't necessarily need to lack glamour.

The guys from Graysin Racing are confirmed as our camping guests for the weekend and will be providing updates of the on-track exploits throughout the event. And if you prefer the party atmosphere of the main Le Mans 24-hour you can, of course, join us there too!

wonderful event, you get to see so many different eras of cars up close & personal. MG's aniversary this year so expect lots of special cars there.

It is indeed a great event. I hate to say it though, but those prices seem pretty high to camp. I appreciate it is a business, but never the less, £600 for a car with two passengers is a lot, IMHO.

Still plenty of Maison Blanche availability around for the Classic if you are looking for an excellent alternative.
And seemingly even more Bleu Nord if you really want to be further out.

Really starting to look forward to this... The 1932 citroen c4 is currently being rebuilt ready for its racing exploits, and the whole team are geared up to keeping the ph/1st tickets campers in the loop as to whats going on and how we are doing.

Heck there is even a chance you might get roped in to giving us a hand.

The story behind the Graysin boys is a classic PH story. basically a group of mates who went in 2010 and had an argument about how they could race there in 2012.

when they bought a car they didnt even know they needed a licence!! but they soon approached Midland Classic Restorations ( cracking restorer and race prep) and myself Black Cat Racing ( ex TVR series Champ, and team manager) and weve taken them from their ards test to holding fia international historic licences.

This year we are also running a pair of historic MGBs for them, with the first race in the new cars this weekend at Donington.


We will go through full story over a couple of nights in the marque, but it should give every pher heart that you can get out there.

Our prices are competitive for private camping at the Classic and are in line with the same package we provide for PH at the Le Mans 24 Hours ( see thread for more info).

Renting the land from the ACO plus sourcing and hiring the toilets, showers, fencing, security agents, marquee, etc comes at a cost, which is reflected in the premium over the standard camping packages. We acknowledge that there are other campsites available at the circuit and we can provide packages for these as well.

Just to reiterate the PH camping self drive packages include the following:

• Channel Crossing (up to 5 days)
• Camping at the PH/1st Tickets private campsite with all it's facilities listed in the news article
• General Admission tickets
• Paddock tickets
• Sending the tickets to you by special delivery

So for two people in a car it is £590 by Eurotunnel and £570 by Ferry (Dover - Calais). Also if there are three or four of you in the car, the price is less per person.

Imminent arrival of child number 2 means that the 24 is out of the question for me this year, but I'm already campaigning hard for the weekend pass for the classic. It is a FANTASTIC event - just so much better than the 24 in this era of diesel. There's nothing more exciting than seeing GT40s going for it in the middle of the night. Wonderful, can't wait.
