Quaife Sierra RS Cosworth T5 Ratios
Discussion
Hi Steve
It could have standard or close ratio. Info from Quaife
Ford Sierra Cosworth Borg Warner T5 synchromesh Quaife gearkit is suitable to fit original Ford Sierra Cosworth models using Borg Warner T5 gearbox.
The Ford Sierra Cosworth Borg Warner T5 synchromesh Quaife gearkit comes with helical cut gears, in either standard ratios or close ratio options.
The Ford Sierra Cosworth Borg Warner T5 synchromesh Quaife gearkit runs with needle roller bearings to support free running gears and retains the original Ford mainshaft.
The Ford Sierra Cosworth Borg Warner T5 synchromesh Quaife gearkit includes strengthened selector forks.
How that old Lotus comming on
Cheers Rod

Hi Rod
Thanks for that. I have spoken to Quaife and the only way to tell if their gear set is fitted is to open the box and read the part numbers on the gears:-( This isn't as easy as on the old 2000E, rocket or Type 9 boxes. The top cover on the T5 has the gear selectors and gear lever shaft attached to it!
If the cover can be lifted a tad I might be able to slip a borescope inside in order to try to read some part numbers on the gears. Failing that I think I will just sell as a standard T5 (which it most probably is anyway).
Engine and sequential box are fitted, hopefully for the final time. Having the CV joints lightened at the moment prior to assembling suspension. Rear A frames are now adjustable to allow toe in/out adjustment (top wishbones are already adjustable, front and rear).
Fuel pump setup now sorted (tape is to stop pumps etc being stuck to carbon fibre while glue holding alloy bobbins sets).

Only big items left to source are wheels (need body back on so final width and offset can be decided upon) and dampers. Progress is slow as without sponsorship funding is problematic and doing most things myself takes time but I am getting there.
How are you doing? Any events planned for this year?
Regards
Steve

Im ok Steve
In the middle of getting a girdle developed for my block, its taking a bit longer than i thought but may be available soon it will include a dry sump system & if it works we can start using the Nitrous for a Topspeed attempt. Sounds like you are making progress as well, looking good.
Cheers Rod

Does the girdle do away with the crank main bearing caps? Had a similar system on my Lotus twincam engine that also incorporated a dry sump. Made the bottom end almost indistructable (back in the early 80s, so power levels were nowhere near as high as today).

I seem to remember that, some time ago, you were finished with top speed attempts? :-) Any figure in mind that you are prepared to make public? :-)

The girdle does strengthen things but untill i see the finished article im not sure of the details.
Topspeed attempts are now finished in Mags as they can no longer get insurance to cover these events.
However i can hire Brunters & ask the mags to attend & charge them the hire fees for the story or enter a Vmax event & get the mag to attend & strap their timing gear to the car. Probably going for the latter.
The aim is 212+ which would require circa 940bhp to achieve so its possible.
You say yours is taking a long time but what will we do if we ever finish our cars except get old & grey

Hi. Engine was sold around 6 years ago for £3500.
Weslake modified head. Biggest valves that could be fitted.
Newman full race cams
Double valve springs
Tall block (1700cc)
Steel crank
Steel rods
Cosworth pistons
Full race 4 into 1 exhaust
45 DHLAs
Electronic ignition
Lightened flyheel
Paddle clutch
168bhp at rear wheels at Jon Mowatt's (in Essex) in 1984, so that figure is pretty accurate.
It lived in a 1967 Lotus Elan, into which I am in the process of fitting a Cosworth YB.
