I fitted a 2nd hand alpine cd player to my mondeo and yesterday my car had a flat battery and thought it might be the cd player, it there any chance it cause a battery to go flat over night?

If you have wired the permanent and switched lives the wrong way around then yes it could so that would be the first thing to check.

typically there is a yellow wire and a red wire on wee clips that pop off, you can swap these over so it's yellow-red and red-yellow

Does it save your presets when you turn the ignition off?

is probably not the red/yellow if the presets are being saved. your essentially swapping a switched live for a permanent.

was it going cheap? biggrin

Even if the stereo was wired permanently it would take weeks to fully drain the battery. I'd say it's more likely to be the battery has packed in

It's wired up correctly.

Wire it back in and put a meter across the battery to measure the drain, see if the unplugging the alpine cd reduces that drain, if it does then the cd player has an internal fault, if it doesn't then you issue lies elsewhere.
