The devil's in the detail... in search of a noise
Discussion
For many months now, have had a really irritating 'buzz' from behind the dash. Apparent from just over idle to about 3k, loud and annoying
Have also had a 'creaky' throttle (just the springs getting old thought I).
After many unsuccessful forays under the dash top (it takes itself off when I whistle these days), to zip-tie cable bundles, tighten clocks, and pad out various black boxes etc, I have had a Eureka moment
Just tinkering around under the bonnet, and I thought I'd have a go at the creaky spring(s); idea being to maybe grease them up or even replace with shiny new ones (I thought the creak was the coils fretting against each other as they are a tad tarnished). Erm, nope....
Turns out (and I've never previously noticed) the springs are ended/handed and the rear (ie the one you can't see) was on the wrong way round. As a consequence it was rubbing on the back of the throttle linkage bracket when the throttle moved through its range. 30 seconds later (and an oath or two) to reverse it and no more creaky throttle (yay!)
Better still and completely unexpectedly, the buzz from behind the dash has gone too (bigger YAY!!!
)
Bet I'm not the first to have suffered that gotcha
