rear window screen. So when you fire up the heated rear screen, the mirrors heat up too.

Always suspected that of being the case, but did a little experiment on the way home tonight and confirmed it.

Anyone else not know this?

I've got heated wing mirrors in my Civic Type R, but you can only heat one at a time, with a L/R selector switch next to the mirror pan control. They defrost very quickly and quickly - deice and then steam off any moisture on them in no time. They are a bit redundant now though, since I garage my car at night so it's never frozen over in a while.

Mine are heated when you turn the electric mirror switch to heat. I suppose a lot of cars are different.

Are you being obtuse..? You do know the brakes only stop the car when it's moving, don't you? hehe

Funnily enough I found that out when I bought my car. It was in the driver's handbook. Perhaps it is worth anread, you might find some other intersting stuff in it.

Mine do that, but you'll also find that they should heat when the rear window screen is heated. No idea why I have both.

That's generaly how they work, going back to the 80s when they first started to appear, french manufactureres seem to invent odd ways to do it IME

I've got an old BMW 325ix with the winter pack. It has heated door locks, mirrors, washer jets and a second high pressure screenwash system. All in 1987.

I knew it was wired to something else but wasn't sure what, when I have the heated rear screen on I also always have front heated screen plus screen blowers, I knew it was one of those three.

Mine are independent from the rear screen, and anything else for that matter.

Bit of a pointless thread really. Surely all cars will have a different setup.

Mine are connected to the windscreen de-mist/de-frost button. The one which automatically turns the blowers on full and directs all the air out of the windscreen vents.

Yes, but that's not a fair comparison as that happens on most cars, whereas the heated mirrors aren't

The car unlocking the doors when you press the brake pedal would be a comparative to the above example yes?

Not as compleat but a 1981 cortina Ghia had em and the granada had em earlyer than that, not exactly that complicated just a wire stuck into the foam backing/sticky pad tthat holds the morror to the motor plate, basicly a dead short (like a leccy bar fire at home) and bloody expensive to replace !

Who would only ever want to defrost one or one at a time?
