One of the tail-pipes has split and come adrift at the rear mounting. Would anyone have any recommendations for a replacement exhaust system?

Tower View have them. May even be able to repair your existing one.

These would be the same pipes that Austec would fit, right?

Does anyone have any pics of the Austec V8S sports pipes they fit... on a V8S or anything else for that matter?

If I ever get my car back from Austec - its been there 7 long weeks now - it will have ACT stainless pipes.

With a bit of luck, a following wind and the apperance of an oil pump from Lord Lucans autofactor, I should get her back Tuesday - I'll take some photos of the pipes, oh and my new 4.1 litre [bounce] [bounce] engine

Cam wear was diagnosed during service in late May and a 3 day booking was made for late June (because they are so busy). An MOT was required and I returned the car to Austec for them to sort the MOT (because I only work walking distance away) 4th June. The MOT centre returned the car with zero oil pressure and nasty noises in the engine. They had been seen hooning somewhere and Austec were told. Paul went garrity at the MOT centre and they are paying for the repair/s.

Mike and Paul came to the conclusion that the safest and best way of repair was a new short engine . It's now only available as a 4.1 , and it has been sat on their shop floor since 8th June whilst the other bits and pieces are aquired.

The sticking point being the oil pump which V8 developments have said has been coming for the best part of four weeks . It was allegedly collected from them by carrier 3pm Tuesday and still hadn't arrived by 4pm today .

Still whilst the engine has been out they will have been able to do other stuff like, check the clutch, tart up the engine bay and exposed chassis, and I'm having stainless manifold trees fitted whilst they had the cast ones off.:bigears:

and I've had a hire car (Honda Jazz ) since 4th June, so ultimately, whilst every cloud has a silver lining, I do just want my bloody car back before the end of summer.

Once I get it back I'll post an update/results etc.

Man that sucks, I really feel for ya. Its a pitty ted wont allow naming and shaming where its due! At least the MOT center paid the repair bills, and no doubt word of mouth will do its thing, locally!

I've got a radio-mad mate who'll be installing a tracking device at some point, so that I can log onto the web, and see what road my car is on, what on a map, see how fast its going etc. Its great you didnt have to foot the bill(!) -Rob

That kind of thing really pi55es me off There was a thread in the general gassing section about someone who had their Viper trashed by the workshop trainee. It makes me glad I do most of my own work, and have a good friend for the rest . What gets me is that if they hadn’t blown the thing up they probably would never have admitted it. That could amount to 1000’s of miles worth of ware in a 10 mile rev-limiter bouncing thrash.

At least you got lucky and they were caught, it is just the next poor sod I worry about. I suppose the thing to do is check the mileage before you leave, making sure they can see exactly what you are doing and leave it at that. There is no need for a test drive in the MOT, so no miles need to be added.

Still, a new 4.1L engine :deep unmitigated joy:

hi all,

tried to find something about V8s exhaust manifolds in the forum...
i dismatled my manifolds because they were leaky. but before i´m going to buy new ones i try to repair them. does anyone know what happens if i remove the pre catalysts in it? maybe there is less heat accumulation in the manifolds without them an it won´t break again...
but i don´t know what the effcts on the exhaust values for the german "V.A.T.".
does anyone know?
is it a good idea to remove them?
thanks

The precats don't do anything for the emissions (the main cat will take care of that anyway) and it's very common to remove them. The experts recommend fitting a non-reversal cone inside the collector at this point, instead of the precat.
