I just saw through our lounge window a car reverse into our little clio. The driver just drove off, I ran down the wet road in my socks and stopped the car. The driver was a middle aged woman with a gobby son. She said she drove off because there was no damage. (She never got out and checked) our clio now has a scuffed rear bumper, ordinarily if the woman had stopped and left details I would have probably turned a blind eye, but because of her and her hobby sons attitude I don't want to just leave it. I have her insurance details, but it doesn't seem worthwhile putting a claim in. Should I just get over it or move on. I'm fking raging.

On the first, i'd be inclined to push the claim through just to make the point. Why should you pay? Too many people are doing this today. What if it had been your 430? She has no excuse and is actually commiting an offence by driving off so you could seek police assistance too (but its not really worth it given the probable outcome). Get the job done on her insurance and you wont see her round your area again.

Point 2. Id remove the picture of the gooby son as it might get you in more trouble than she is in. If he or a friend sees it and does a screen capture he could quickly become the victim and you the criminal which would invalidate your own claim as his case is more serious. It sucks that it works this way but thats the way it goes. He still looks like a tool though.

The anger fuelled decision is to ensure they pay for the whole shebang. It's what I'd want to do. However, the sad reality is, they know where you live, and where you car/cars park. If they're that unsavoury, you'll possibly end up with a brick/keyed car/pot of emulsion poured over your pride and joy 6 months after you've claimed for your £300...

Sad state of affairs, but tread carefully.

I would get three quotes and contact her and offered her to settle without going through insurance.

If it goes through the insurance, both of your premiums will go up!

Sadly you are dead right, and there could be more trouble ahead than its ever worth.

I offered this, but she wouldn't have it. She claimed the damage was too minor to worry about! Really pisses me off that she drives into my parked car, and yet one way or the other I will have to pay. The dishonesty of just driving off is what gets me. She will get away with it. By the look of her car it doesn't look like the first time this has happened. It will probably happen again. For me the principle of the whole thing is the biggest issue I have.

Stupid bint.

I would do it, go through the insurance company, her's will go up a lot more than yours, don't see why she should get away with it.

Get a quote, speak to her and say you're happy to do it privately and say her insurance will go up and if she says no, then get on the phone!

If its proven that the bint was at fault and her insurance covers it then why should Pete's insurance go up?

Although it is a non fault claim, statistically, you are more likely to be involved in another accident.

I personally think it's crap, but it's a fact!

I've heard a number of people say that you can claim for the increase of insurance for the next 5 years too...no idea how to do this though.

I have had two accidents in the last two years. One I was waitig at a red light for about a minute and someone decided to rear end me. Second one I was sat in a queue of traffic and someone also decided to drive in to the back of me. Both still have to be declared when I renew my policy and it does affect the premium, even though a full recovery was made both times. So annoying but there is no way round it.

My Mondeo was damaged in the carpark in Fareham as well, and no note left. It cost me £500 for a new (secondhand) xenon light and dent removal etc. I didnt even consider claiming for that one as I knew it would hit me hard as they would not be able to recover their costs. Insurance is pointless really, unless you total your car. Even if your one of the best drivers in the world like me! you still get bitten regardless!! Loose loose unfortunatly.

Personally I wouldnt claim mate if you dont care about the Clio.

Claim against her and push her premium up.

Sue her for cold feet and a new pair of socks as you ran in wet rain without appropriate footwear.
(seems we can sue for anything in this country now so go for it!!! Hehe)

+1.

Pete, sadly, this is the truth and the best advice you could probably be given.
On many occasion it is best to sometimes swallow your pride rather than pursue something that will have no real meanful ending and probably only result in months of stress for what is really only a trivial annoyance.

Whilst I appreciate it is enfuriating to think that these people are laughing at you as they driving away, the truth is that they were probably jealous as hell, on their way back to thier 3rd generation council house with no prospect of ever fullfilling their lifes aspirations of seeing the result of the DNA test they requested on Jeremy Kyle.

The anger has passed now. I shan't be pursuing this, although it is so hard not to. She's a rough old bint and allways will be, that's punishment enough. Got too many happy things going on in my life to get anymore wound up!

Bravo mate. Like you say you will one day forget you ever owned the Clio, whereas she has to look in the mirror for the rest of her life. Good decision pal.
