I've got a classic splitscreen VW van in need of protecting from the elements. Would covers do it more harm than good or are the latest offerings any good?

Also interested in this. A mate used one on his herald and it runined the paint.

If it's outside then my concern would be the material chafing against the bodywork as it moved in the wind (and it will, no matter how you secure it).

Swirls aren't the concern. As long as it would protect from UV/Rain/Dirt/Snow etc, I'd be happy!

I've had around 5 covers from Halfords since 2005 while my freshly resprayed shell stood outside without any work being done. The colour of the paint has held up well and scratching isn't too bad, nothing more than tiny bits of haze here and there if anything at all. The reason I've had to replace them so many times is down to the fact that they kept splitting and ripping when the wind was stretching them.

The last one I bought was completely different to the previous 4. All the same price of about £60.00 (an awful lot for a sheet of anything if you ask me!) - The latest version of the Halfords car cover is pretty good. I'd choose it. The previous version wasn't very good and I can see why they updated it.
