Specifically, what tool do I need to extract them from the manifolds?

I have tried a long reach socket with a ground slice out the side and also tried to source a box type spanner/socket, all to no avail.

So is there the right tool for the job? (that will stop me wasting another morning farting around trying to modify something).

Split the socket with a angle grinder so you don`t have to cut the cable..I uses a large Jubilee Clip to hold it together..

I ran the engine for a while then it it came out a few minutes later..when cooling.

1/2 drive socket that I used measures 80mm long, with "useful depth" of approx. 60mm in side

Yes wink i recommend a modified impact hex socket not a chrome bi hex frown similar to this and attacked with an angle grinder for a groove up its entire length to allow the wires to pass through http://www.diytools.co.uk/sealey-is3817d-impact-so... thus ending up looking like no.1 in this pic http://www.uktools.com/oxygen-lambda-sensor-socket... hope that helps smokin

Why modify anything, just note which wire goes in which hole in the plastic plug and then remove plug shell.
The wires will then pass through a normal plug spanner. Remove sensor and refit plug shell.
Ten minutes job done.

Managed to finish the job this afternoon.
I used 'paulathome's method and a plug spanner (the box type) I found tucked away in the shed belonging to my chain saw.

Thanks again all, pre cats are now removed and the car back togethe ................minor fettling to line up one y piece connection, but thats for another day.

Probably Wednesday when my new discs turn up!!

Anyone know what thread and pitch the standard narrow band sensors are? I'm having a single wideband fitted to mine (in the ECU upgrade) and the standard narrow bands will be left unused - I'm thinking of removing them and just plugging the holes. biggrin

  • chuckle* Thought you might have some experience or an opinion ...
Looking forward to getting the old girl back again ... haven't had any bad news phonecalls from the guys doing it so hopefully it's all going well. biggrin

The CANEMS guys are up in Shorpe only a few miles from where I was born so I thought that that seemed like as good a reason as any to go that route - support should be UK based. smile

I have two wide band lambdas ,got Phil to put another Lambda input in the meagasquirt ..

Its works off one lambda and the other is constantly trimming ..

Both banks are not exactly the same and all modern V8`s run with two..

Thats why i get 31.5mpg at at 70mph and slightly more around the 60mph mark..
