Detachable grilles
Discussion
Giving the new V12V a clean the other day and when nearly finished I set about the Traditional knuckle skin removing job of cleaning the grille. First thing I noticed was the top bar was "floating" i.e. you can slide it from side to side.
I found giving it a tug, the bar comes out in fact they all do and with a bit of dexterity you can tug the whole grille set out in one with two or three of the vertical supports coming with it as they are not attached to the car.
Looks like a set of samurai swords when you get them out.
Plus point is this makes cleaning so much easier than with my 4.3 which I am pretty sure the blades were fixed.
Down side is this makes them easy to nick (especially as I have now removed the number plate housing) and you have to be very careful how you pull them out and refit them as they scratch super easy. Plus I wonder after a couple of years of regular removal if they will not snap back firmly enough and be prone to dropping out.
So a question. Is the top bar's looseness (it slides left to right very easily) a warranty issue or is it supposed to do this? Or do you all just super glue them in?

How do you get the the two back nuts if removing the front grille as one piece.
The AM dealer took about 5 mins to swap out under a warranty claim and I wonder if they just took all of the blades out or even just changed the faulty blade?.
No need to get any nuts off. You can pull each grill out with an light tug. If you grab a hold in the right place the whole lot comes out. What happens is some of the uprights are fixed to the car and some are not. If you the grab the grills around the free upright stays then they hold all the grills together as you pull them away from car. I can get a photo of this. The AM dealer took about 5 mins to swap out under a warranty claim and I wonder if they just took all of the blades out or even just changed the faulty blade?.
Seems this is a different system to that on earlier cars or non V12V's.
Seeing how easy they are to remove I wonder what they would look like if painted Black on a Carbon Black V12V. Anyone?

Well as Craig stated the "slats" do just pull straight out less than 2 mins work. Bit concerned as I was looking at replacing the front grill with the bright finish grille (£500) but more adverse to just getting it recoated as it seems too easy to nick.
Shifty, are your slats black? Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
