wonder if any fellow PH'er can predict the future and think of cars made in the last 10 years which will become classic in decades to come

for me it's got to be

Audi A2 - first mass produced Aluminium body

Renault Avantime - A flop, and unreliable, but years ahead of its time in terms of concept and pillar less design

BMW M3 CSL

Suzuki Swift Sport - a proper little hot hatch that showed all the expensive hot hatch makers (i'm looking at you, Mini JCW and Fiat 500 SS editions) how to do it

Good shout on the A2 a very clever car which came to the market at the wrong time.

I think the Alfa Romeo GT will be a classic as will the GTV.

e46 M3 CSL
e92 M3 GTS
BMW 1M Coupe
Mercedes C63 AMG
Aston Martin Cygnet
Audi R8
Ford Focus RS
Citroen DS3

I do wonder if a standard e46 M3 will appreciate like the e30 M3 is at the minute. Personally I don't know about an Audi A2. Doesn't a future classic have to be evocative, successful and desirable?

Before you flame me the Cygnet was a joke.....

Renault Vel Satis should be a quirky classic, in my opinion.

Citroen C6 for sure, as well;

Future classic, no doubt, but it's much older than "10 years" smile

Considering something like a well preserved spotless Ford Cortina can go for silly money these days, will a gleaming R Reg Mondeo be valuable in 30 years time?

You say that but if you told a Cortina owner in 1979 that their car would be worth a pretty penny by 2012 in as-new condition they'd have said bks. Such cars were scrapped easily and viewed as disposable which could partly explain the 'rareness value.'

They were also built in far fewer numbers. Of course any car in pristine condition that is 30 years old will be worth money but I don't think they will be as desirable as a 30 year old Escort/Cortina is now. IMO

RS500 focus, brits seem to love or fast fords.

I think saxos vts and 106's gti will go the same way as the Peugeot 205 gti as clean original examples become even more scarce, particularly the 106 rallye variant.
