Current Impreza is generic hatchback. I wonder if the comedy handling (by its standards) when it first came out has put people off as well. Vauxhall VX220
I've not seen a saloon version on the streets even though its on sale.
Used to see a quite a few VX220 when they first came out. Doesn't seem its dated well judging by how often I/you see it these days.

Honda Insight.
Fiat Coupe
And Saab 9-5 also worthy contenders.
I'd also like to add Fiesta RS Turbo. A much more impressive car than the stronger selling Mk 2 Escort RS Turbo was.
